Antivirus scanning via VMware

Can you use windows-based version of McAfee Security Center via VMware Fusion 2 virtual operating environment in WinXP Pro? (not sure all that is necessary but hey...)

Basically I want to scan my iMac's entire Hard Drive (not just the virtual drive or even the 12 GB partition Fusion uses) for Windows viruses in case my hard drive is harboring malware. I use winXP Pro on my laptop and my work uses XP and Vista so I need to ensure a clean home computer when I email back and forth with my work computer and laptop... and i think we owe it to the world to ensure we don't spread malware even if it won't affect [Snow] Leopard.

Downloading Windows 7 THEN installing

I have recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. I have not partitioned or installed any sort of Windows software.

I saw the chance to get Windows 7 pretty cheap via the Student purchase program that went on. I bought it, downloaded it, and now all I have is an .exe file. Has anyone gotten stuck in this situation? Does anyone know how to get a usable file from this so I may install Windows 7???

Thanks,

Boot Camp XP and wireless keyboard/mouse..

I have a new iMac running Snow Leopard and bought it with the wireless keyboard and mouse. While I run Fusion 2 with an XP SP2 install with no issues I do have one app that will not run under Fusion. I want to also have a Boot Camp install of XP if Fusion does not provide a solution. I have run the app under Boot Camp on my MacBook and Leopard.

Unfortunately, all attempts to get either input device to pair with XP fail under Boot Camp. I have been to most of the Mac sites, finding some succeed, some have to re-pair each boot-up, and I assume I am not alone in that neither will pair with XP.

Does anyone have a definitive answer on how to pair them this way?

Boot Camp versus Windows 7

For those of you who partitioned your hard drive to install Windows 7, and then rushed out and bought Windows 7, forget about installing Windows 7 for now. Apple nonchalantly told me that they will update Boot Camp "by the end of the year". That is outrageous. Apple is caught OUT TO LUNCH and has left its good customers in the lurch. I suggest not buying Windows 7 until Apple gets around to updating Boot Camp.

Did anybody notice the graphic behind Steve Balmer of MS, introducing Windows 7 on the Today show, 9/22/09??? Here is a link to that segment: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/33428419#33428419
It was the Windows 7 OS logo on a MacBook Pro. Well it will work of course, but was this on purpose or some graphic designer having a bit of fun?

reformatted windows partition in error thru back up how do I correct

I have just set up a windows partition. It worked properly.I then needed to back up and I wasn't paying attention (4 kids in background!!) and asked the time machine to back up to what I thought was my external hard drive - wrong, it was the new partition and it has reformatted it. Now I cannot correct that error. Any ideas about what I need to do. Boot camp assistant says "The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."
No problems with my Apple before so no idea how to proceed.

Problems with Windows on Mac

Hello guys,
I am an engineering student and need to install windows-only software on my laptop. It just so happens that I own a macbook pro with the intel core 2 duo and all of the other stuff. It is actually just a few weeks old. However, with that said, I am having allot of issues installing windows xp with service pack 2 on the machine. I attempted using bootcamp, but this error pops up:

but of course, my hard drive is formatted as extended journaled so I have no idea what the problem is.

I also tried to use parallels but windows installation stops at 39 minutes and an error pops up. I am guessing it has to do with the same issue.

I wouldn't want to reformat my hard drive but will if its tha last resort. I really need to install that software on my machine and I am getting rather desperate.

More room for Windows?

I’m new here and a new Mac Pro owner. So I already have a few questions that maybe someone can answer for me. Bear with me because I can’t seem to get a clear answer to my main questions here..

1.	I am from the engineering world, so I still have a pressing need to run windows 50% of the time. Unfortunately Engineering = Windows at this point. So when the Intel Macs came along, I jumped into Mac. I have Bootcamp installed and I run Parallels using the Bootcamp image as my Virtual Machine. Since I wanted to save as much Hard Disk “real estate” for Snow Leopard, I instructed Bootcamp to make the recommended 32 Gig Partition. Well, now I realize it’s MUCH too small. After installing Vista (and soon to be Windows 7), and just a few enginnering applications, I only have 3 GB left for source. I need a bunch more than that. So, the first question is (and I’m afraid of the answer, but here goes), is there any way to increase the size of the Windows partition without destroying the existing one and having to reinstall it? The main issue is that I already used the license keys and reinstalling in a new Windows partition would mean having to get the keys all re-issued, a royal PAIN.
2.	Second follow on question. My Mac has a 250 Hard drive. I get the feeling that I’m going to outgrow the whole drive soon anyway. So maybe this is a good time to just upgrade the drive. Has anyone done this through Apple and what was the cost? And if I do the upgrade myself, will any off the shelf SATA drive work ok? Standard connection, etc? And will the Mac format the drive easily?
3.	Last but not least. Will commercial Apple Drive cloning software also clone an existing Windows partition onto a new drive? Or does the cloning software only clone the OS X part, leaving me to run Bootcamp and reinstall the whole Windows environment all over again anyway? I am asking because if my eventual goal is to increase the drive size, it may not even be worth trying to repartition the existing drive.

Sorry for all the questions, but this forum seems to have the most knowledgable users, so I’m picking your brains. Thanks
