Versa mount for 21.5 imac

I am a short man who is also disabled (visual, legally blind). I need to adjust the 21.5 imac to correct eye-level. The only way for me to do this effectively is using a versa mount. However, I was told at the Apple store the 21.5 iMac will not support any versa mount. What gives Apple!! Is there a work around that wont void my warranty. I have not bought the iMac yet, if there is no solution, than I wont buy it. I will go to a macmini and use my 19 year old 19 inch CRT.

Thanks.

FW 800 external drive vs. single internal drive

I'm looking to get one of the new 27" iMac Quad Cores as an upgrade from my old G5 Tower. Traditionally I've always kept my OS and applications on one internal drive and my files and media on another internal drive, but I wont have this option with the iMac since it only has a single internal drive. My question is, would it be more efficient to put my files and media on an external Firewire 800 drive and use the internal drive solely for the system and aps? Would I see any performance decrease from this? Should I just stick with the internal drive, and perhaps use separate partitions for the OS and files? My primary activities on the computer include editing photos with Photoshop and Aperture, some SD video work with FinalCut, streaming music and video to other locations, and a bit of Maya 3D animation.

Thanks for any advice!

New 27" iMac - HDMI>Mini-Displayport in?

Hello!

I was reading Macworld's review of the new 3.06 Ghz, 27" iMac. I noticed that they said that video-in will work with any mini-displayport input. Now, I know there are Mini-displayport TO HDMI adapters, so you can hook up a new MacBook to a HDTV. Well, I've got an Xbox 360 and a PS3, both currently attached to a 24", 1080p monitor. The imac is bigger, brighter, and has a far, far, FAR better viewing angle than this display, and I'd love to use the iMac instead.

Can I take one of these little mini-displayport > HDMI adapters, designed for video out from a Macbook, and use it to attach an HDMI device to the iMac? Or, is there a different way of doing it?

battery issues

hey everyone. newbie here. i've worked on and have owned macs for several years as a graphic designer, and couldn't be happier. back in march, i received a position as a high school graphic arts teacher, which provided me with a 15" aluminum macbook pro. the previous teacher didn't do much to take care of it unfortunately, and one of its slightly irritating problems i inherited it with was a battery with a lifespan of about 45 minutes.

the new school year started, and with my funds i bought a brand new battery for it, intending to take care of it wisely. unfortunately, this new battery lasts not a whole lot longer than the previous one; about an hour, hour and a half tops.

i've set the energy saving options to conserve as much battery as possible and the screen brightness to very low when not plugged in, but it doesn't seem to do much. anyone have any hints or suggestions or ideas or whatnot?

thankQ!

macbook pro not waking up from sleep, exhausting battery when asleep/hibernating, fans running at fast a lot, takes forever to turn on

I dropped my macbook pro a few weeks ago. Everything was working normally, even the cd drive, which is on the side where I dropped and heavily dented it. The worst of it seemed to be that the casing is so dented that my computer won't stay closed. I had plans to get the dents repaired and everything checked out a couple weeks from now when I will have less constant need of my computer for a while, but now I'm worried that something is really wrong, and by using it the way I have been, I'm making the problem a lot worse.

There is a weird thing happening with the fan, but it doesn't seem that bad on its own, just now that I'm having these other problems. I have smcfancontrol, and normally, my fans would be running in the 1000-3000 rpm range, only getting higher when the temperature was above 60C or 70C, which only happened when I was doing the normal things that overheat computers, like streaming video while holding it on my lap. Now my computer will be flat on a desk, at 40C or 50C, and running at 6000-7000 rpm! It isn't quite constant, but it happens very often. It does seem to have something to do with how much cpu I'm using, but shouldn't it have more to do with the temperature? And I'm not doing anything new with my computer that I wasn't doing when the fans were behaving normally.

The sleep problems are worrying me much more. As I said, my computer won't stay closed, it pops open just a little bit. If I hold it closed, it will fall asleep. For several weeks after dropping it, I had no problems with sleep, I would hold it closed, it would fall asleep, it would pop open slightly, when I wanted to use it again I would open it all the way and it would wake up normally. Now, whenever I open my computer, it's off. I move my computer around a lot, and it doesn't seem like I should be booting it up this often. The first time this happened, I had left it unplugged and asleep overnight, and the battery was exhausted when I went to open it in the morning. This seemed strange, since I've often left it unplugged all night with no problems, but at least it being unplugged for a long time explained why it turned itself off. This has now happened several times, plugged, unplugged, fully charged, barely charged, after being asleep for a short time or long time.

I've looked through these and other forums a bit, and I've tried a couple things, like turning off time machine and changing the sleep mode every which way. It doesn't seem to have made any difference. All my firmware and software is up to date.

Also since it is booting up several times a day I've noticed that it takes at least 5 minutes to boot up.

Is there anything else I can do to try to fix this problem on my own? Should I keep it plugged in and open and stationary all the time until I can get this fixed? Should I stop using my computer entirely until I can get this fixed?

Looking for a glossy monitor

Hello people,
I am looking for an additional monitor in the 22" range. However it seems as if matte screens make up about 90% of standalone monitors. I vastly prefer a glossy screen to matte as I like how the colors look on the gloss. I've seen a few of the HP's but that's about all I've been able to find thus far. So I am wondering if any of you guys or girls have a recommendation for a simple widescreen display around 22" with a glossy screen. Would be greatly appreciated!

When i open imovie09 to work on the files that are on the iomega hd, you can see in the Event Library that the iomega hd shows up but when I click on it there are no files in it. Since there was no step by step manual on how to transfer files from the Mac to the iomega hd, i'm wondering what I did wrong.

"Brand New" 2008 Mac Pro - Sell or Not?

Hi All...This is potentially embarrassing, but I need to confess that I have a "brand new" in the box, refurbished Mac Pro that I purchased in February 2008. Due to work and travel issues, I just never got around to opening it up and building my digital video edit suite / photo "darkroom." Here's what I have:

Two 3.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors
2GB (4 x 512MB) memory
(667MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC)
250GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200 rpm hard drive
Two 16x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Radeon X1900 XT with 512MB memory

It retailed for around $3500 and I paid $2300. As it is in a sealed box, I think I can still get at least $1500 for it. Would the recommendation be to sell and upgrade to latest generation Mac Pro OR to open the box, take $400-$800 and load it up with RAM? Again, most of my needs will be in video editing (without any emphasis on high end effects program) and digital darkroom functions.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated...

Hello everybody, I'm new to Macworld but ever since I stumbled across it, I've loved it. Its very imformative and the forum is laid out very nicely.

My problem is that my harddrive is only 80gb and its absolutely killing me. I do a lot of audio work so some of the files and projects I work on can be HUGE. I want to get the biggest upgrade/harddrive I can get that will not crash or screw up. Price really doesnt matter

Apple TV and router problems

Hello
I have an issue with my Apple TV and my Zyxel Prestige 2602R-D1A router. I can’t see the ATV in iTunes when my PC is wirelessly connected. Also, my iPhone Remote App can’t find the ATV.

The ATV is connected to the router by cable.
When my PC is connected to the router by cable everything works fine.
I can without problems ping the ATV from my wirelessly connected PC.
Pairing between ‘wireless PC and ATV’ and ‘iPhone and ATV’ works fine.

A couple of times the ATV has been visible 10-20 seconds when I open iTunes (wirelessly connected PC). Then it disappears.

I have tried to reset the router and ATV (to factory settings) and reinstalled iTunes but without success. I hope that the problem is caused by some kind of wrong settings in my router.

Any suggestions?

I just spent $1000 for a 120 Gb Rev drive and disks. I connected the Rev drive to my snow leopard mac and it doesn't work. It will read the disks but not write. So what's up?
Iomega has a message on their website that the Rev is not compatible with Snow Leopard "...due to a UDF driver conflict that will not be fixed."
What does "...will not be fixed" mean?
Does the mean that Iomega won't update a simple driver to Snow Leopard? Is Iomega giving up on the Mac? Can someone explain this to me?
