What camcorder to buy?

Hey folks-simple question but I bet not easy to answer. I have looked at info on-line and it seems no clear advice. I have a Mac Pro and want to buy a camcorder and use iMovie and iDVD. I am not a serious filmer but want a good camera and use my mac to the fullest and not use 3rd party this and that to get my camera to import. Tape vs. memory yada.

Any advice would be great

thanks

New to MAC - trouble creating DVDs

I have recently switched from PCs to MACs and I'm very impressed, especially as far as video editing/creation is concerned. But I'm having trouble doing what I used to do with NERO on my PC, which is creating a DVD which includes a mix of AVI, FLV and MPEG files.
I've tried imovie + export to idvd, but it looks as if imovie can only import MPEG4 files.
Am I doing anything wrong? Do you think Titanium would help? Any other suggestions?
Many thanks!

iMovie 06,08, and 09

I've just bought the new MacBook Pro and am upgrading from a Powerbook G4 (OSX 10.4) and a desktop iMac running Leopard (10.5). I've been using iMovie through all the versions but the last one that came with the iMac was '08, which had lots of problems, so I downloaded iMovie HD '06 from Apple, which lots of other people did. Apparently, '09, which comes with the new computer, is a great improvement over '08. However, as I'm most comfortable still with HD '06, I'd like to continue using that until I get more familiar with '09. I see from the Apple site that HD is still available to download, but is there any risk to my new '09 version on my new MacBook Pro if I do that, and is it overall a good idea?

At the end of the movie I've created I have credits that scroll up the screen. As the last line of the credits reaches the middle of the screen, I want to cross dissolve into the next slide that has text on it. Basically, I don't want to have to wait for the scrolling text to reach the top of the screen before the next slide starts dissolving in. I've tried just about everything I know how, and I'm actually pretty good at iMovie, so I'm sorta stumped. Any ideas? Thanks.

Making contact sheets

I take a slew of JPEG headshots of my students at the start of each semester, and then I want to toss them onto a contact sheet as quickly and painlessly as possible so that I can print it out and try to learn their names. I need to be able to drag and drop the photos to rearrange them on the contact sheet, and I need to be able to type the students' names under the photos rather than just have a meaningless file name. And here's perhaps the toughest requirement: when I type the names, I need to be able to include anything that I can get from the Character Palette.

A friend recommended ImageBuddy, which seems to do nothing but contact sheets, and it's O.K. in most respects, but I can't get it to accept non-standard letters, such as an "o" with a bar over it to denote a long "o," even though that letter is readily available in Character Palette.

Until now, I've been using InDesign to do this, but it ends up taking an hour or more for each class. Can anybody recommend an easier tool for making contact sheets which satisfies the three requirements above?

Advice needed - Buying a new Mac Pro

Hi all

Im planning to buy a new mac pro next month and my budget is around 400,000 yens (around 4,000 us dollars).

I already made a choice, im going for a Mac Pro 2,66 6GB Ram 640GB HDD, what I would like to know is, which monitor should I get to make a perfect pair with that box?

I´m a professionar Graphic / Web designer I think Ive readed every review about the new Apple LED Cinema Display on Internet and lots of prons and cons, but not much from professionals.

Should I go for that 24 inch display or theres a better option avaiable? I have around US 1000 to spend on a good monitor.

Tks in advance for the help.

iDVD scratched my dvd

I just burned a dvd project onto a blank dvd (first time I've used the dvd burner) on my macbook, and I can't replay some of the videos because the disk is scratched. The dvd did not touch any surfaces between when I took it out of my macbook and put it back in to play it. The only conclusion I can come to is that my macbook scratched the hell out of the dvd while it was burning it (I can SEE the scratches). What can I do to remedy this? Thanks!
