anyone else ever have this problem with iphoto?

I connected my iphone one day and the thing said "no access privileges" or something along those lines. I realized at that point I could not open iphoto. The same thing, no access privileges. I tried a bunch of things to get it to relauch, rebuilding iphoto etc. Sometimes it would load but when I closed iphoto on the next launch I'd get the same problem. I eventually tried to just create a new iphoto library. I was successful and thought I'd just grab the files from the iphoto package contents. Well...none of the 8891 photos I have in my library will import. I get this error:

*The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)*

I spent about 6 hours over 2 days trying to get to the bottom of this. I eventually called apple tech support and $49 bucks and over an hour later the guy says "at this point we've determined that iphoto is working properly and that it has to do with the content and therefore it is not there problem anymore"! Thanks for the 49 bucks! In their opinion I must have done something to the files so they wont import. Which by the way is total b.s. These files load into any other program fine. Somehow, iphoto f'ed up and these photo's must have some sort of protection embedded in them exclusive to iphoto. What the hell? I'm not an iphoto expert and I've been hung out to dry.

Anyone else out there ever have this problem. All new photos or I should say any photos not previously loaded into iphoto will load no problem.

iPhoto will not print to Epson Artisan 700

When attempting to print from iPhoto 09 to Epson Artisan 700, program crashes and I get a message "iPhoto quit unexpectedly while using the IJPCFoundation plugin". Previous to updating to iPhoto 09 and installing Snow Leopard, I had no problem printing from iPhoto 08. Printing from all other programs works fine. I have uninstalled all drivers and and deleted the Epson folder under Libraries/Printers and reinstalled Epson 6.61 driver with no success.

This problem has occurred with other people and no resolution has been found ... Apple said it was an Epson problem, Epson says if all other programs work it must be an iPhoto problem!

Has anyone found or can suggest a solution!

Thanks

Organizing Photos?

Hello to all,

I am a avid photographer and use iphoto for storing my pictures. I have over 30,000 pictures on my iphoto which I have moved from my HD hard drive, to an external HD that can handle that many. I am getting into shooting RAW and I realize that I'd like to find a new way to store my pictures as iphoto is extremely slow and stalls when I try to move through photos the rainbow ball of death pops up and takes forever to do anything on it now...
I believe it has to do with the amount of photos I have and maybe b/c I keep iphoto on an external something to do with that...

I run a PowerMac G5 Quad Processor, first version, not intel chip...

I do have Aperture, but I think I am going to switch to Lightroom.

I guess my Q, is how should one store a HUGE amount of pictures now and going forward? When you load the pictures where will you have them load to, right to an external Terabyte drive or a Drobo? I've been looking at a Drobo and thinking maybe that's the route to go...

I guess, I like iphoto not for editing but the easily ability to make ibooks, cards, etc...and it's easy, but now that I'm on overload wondering how I should go about this in the future...

I also know that when I take photos both in RAW and JPG, that you can see both in iphoto when you click "edit" and one appears as raw and the other as jpeg...However, when I move the "raw" one to Aperture and look at its metadata I notice that it doesn't say Raw but says Jpeg...Why is this? Is it really a RAW file in iphoto?

Thanks for anyone able to help me!

Photo Time - HELP Please

Can someone help me with this one.

I have photos from a trip to Barcelona taken from 2 digital cameras. The cameras time were set with 1 hour and 10 minutes difference so when I imported the photos in iPhoto09, they were all out of sync.

I currently have the photos in two separate events. I wish to merge them into one and create a slideshow. Since I have 1500 photos within the two events, a manual intervention to each would be pretty inconvenient!

I tried using Photo Time Edit 1.1. It changes the time on the App but does nothing in my iPhoto Library, unless I am missing something ???

Currently using Leopard 10.5.8

Thanks

I'm in a bit of a fix here. I purchased a very capable GPS logger and some software that fit my needs to a 'T' to geotag all of my photos in Aperture, or so I thought.

It turns out that the file formatting for the CSV files that the logger generates are not of the usual structure, looking something like this:

INDEX,TAG,DATE,TIME,LATITUDE N/S,LONGITUDE E/W,HEIGHT,SPEED,HEADING,VOX
1 ,T,090802,143559,45.440078N,012.323685E,126 ,0 ,0 ,
2 ,T,090802,143600,45.440081N,012.323688E,122 ,0 ,0 ,
3 ,T,090802,143601,45.440086N,012.323691E,112 ,0 ,0 ,
4 ,T,090802,143602,45.440089N,012.323694E,107 ,0 ,0 ,
5 ,T,090802,143606,45.440106N,012.323706E,81 ,0 ,0 ,
6 ,T,090802,143607,45.440110N,012.323710E,76 ,0 ,0 ,

which all of the software I've been using to try to extract the data has had issues with.

Here's the full support conversation I've had with the software developer:

HoudahGeo Forum Post

As you can tell, he's had me try a number of conversion methods and it's come down to having to manually manipulate the csv files to read correctly. Who wants to do that with 10,000's of GPS points? Not I. The whole point of having this software is to automate geocoding the photos. At this point, I'm seriously considering asking for my money back.

I'm certainly not savvy enough to write my own script to edit each file, so that method is out. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about fixing these files, or even better, know of geocoding software or converters that are smart enough to handle these files?

viewing iphoto 08 library via Finder

How do you use Finder to find individual photos which are stored in an Iphoto 08 library?

When I start finder and click on Pictures and then an Iphoto library, Finder does not show any of the subdirectories in the library. I can't browse thru the photos. I need to do this because I often want to upload certain photos to various websites and they all start Finder when I click on 'browse for photos'. I don't want to have to export each photo from Iphoto before I can see it and select it for uploading.

I can trick Finder to show me where a photo is within a iphoto 08 library if I start in Iphoto. I right click on the photo and click on 'Show File'. This launches Finder showing the location of the photo. Once that particular Finder window is showing the subdirectories within the Iphoto library, I can use that Finder window to navigate to different photos in different subdirectories. Why won't Finder do this with every Finder window?

iPhoto 09 - View Multiple albums/windows?

I don't see any "New Window" function in iPhoto and I can't find how to view more than one album, or an album and an event, at the one time.

As an example, I would like to compare the contents of an event or events with the contents of an album to make sure I have dragged into the album all the relevant photos from that particular event or events.

It would be good to be able to see the contents of an album and the contents of an event side by side. The same thing could be achieved if there was some way of opening a new window in iPhoto.

In my opinion the function would be even more useful in iPhoto 09 where photos are broken up into Events. If I have various different photos on the one subject imported into iPhoto from file as well as direct from a camera I end up with at least two events covering that one subject - more if I don't import all the relevant file photos at the one time.

There are various ways of achieving what I want to do, but they are more cumbersome than simply being able to view - side by side preferably - photos in more than one album or albums and events.

If anyone has a way of doing this I would be grateful for some feedback.

Greetings from Downunda.

I know she was using the Faces application to try and find images of three people from her facebook, but why would screen shots of all her e-mail and facebook activities show up?
