I am unable to import photos from my new Sony s200, as well as movies from my Konica Minolta x31.
The x 31 replaced my x20 and works off the x20 software, but the movies are unreadable and will not import.
Nothing imports from the Sony. I trashed the software that came with the Sony on the advice of a guy at
the Sony Only store, but still can't import. Help?

Did you mean Sony a200 ? I have no clue to what you are trying to do. I am guessing you want to import photo's from your Sony a200 I think. But what version of iphoto are you using and on what Mac with what version of 10.?

I use Sony DSLR's I never installed any of there software.

More details would help us help you.

You might not have support for the a200 RAW files depending on what OS you are using.

Oops, typo. I meant my Sony DSLR a200. iPhoto has imported easily from any other camera I have used.
I'm running 10.4.11 on my Powerbook G4. iPhoto version is 7.1.3. Thanks.

Did you get this update

http://www.apple.com...tyupdate20.html

If you are just shoot in JPEG you should have a problem. But for RAW you will need that update

I am just shooting in jpg. I downloaded what you suggested, installed and photos are still unreadable. Forgive, I am blond.
Should I re-install the software for the Sony (image date converter and image data light box)?

I don't understand it. You can import JPEG photo's right?

And all your software is up to date via software update?

I have never had to install any of the software that came with any of my cameras.

I just came across this http://www.apple.com.../specs/raw.html I don't know if you need Aperture or not for your RAW support but that update in the previous post should of worked for iPhoto as well.

I only use iPhoto, never Aperture. My experience has been (on this machine running OS10 Panther-Tiger) I download
the software for the camera - first my konica minolta x20 then my fuji (n/a here). My konica minolta crapped
out and I bought a replacement without software, but the new camera has downloaded fine with the old software for
stills, but not with video.

I purchased the Sony dslr a200 and installed the software ( image date converter and image data lightbox), but have been
unable to download anything from the sony camera. Trashed the Sony software downloads and still not able to import
anything. Again, I'm running 10.4.11 and iPhoto 7.1.3

Here's the latest - I spent two hours on the phone with Sony tech support today, got to "level 3" and still no
answers. The resident Mac/Sony/iPhoto guru was not in - so the tech I spoke will discuss the situation with him
on Monday. I won't be able to join the discussion again until a week from Monday, as I will be on vacation.
I would LOVE it if I had the answer to give them before they tell me. This is a challenge, MAC people, it's a
Sony problem, not a MAC problem. (It is not a problem with MY computer as a desktop at my Mac store received
the same message when trying to import.) Can anyone solve it?

The facts: Sony DSLR a200 unable to import pictures from camera to iPhoto.
I receive two different error messages, both start with "Unreadable files", text is either, "The following files could not
be imported (they may be unrecognizable file type of the files may not contain valid data)." or "The following
files could not be imported. (Import failed).

Help me teach Sony a something!

Okay then lets look at how you have your camera set up. How are you shooting just in JPEG or is it set to JPEG+RAW.
What type or memory are you using in your camera?
Did you format your memory card in the camera? Not on your computer!

Did you bring it back to where ever you bought it at?

As per the Sony tech (second level) my camera is set to "fine", which they tell me is jpg. I reformatted the card
in the camera. I have a 4gb "memory stick pro duo" inserted into a "memory stick duo adapter for compact flash
slot" (AD-MSCF1). I bought the camera online so returning would be a hassle and a half. The puzzler to me -
during my time on the phone with Sony, I took several pics and tried importing to iPhoto several times. During
one of those times, one photo actually did import, yet another taken a few seconds later, would not import.

Okay then....Try Image Capture to import your photo's. In your Applications Folder you'll find Image Capture. Open the app go to the Preferences and set Image Capture to open when camera is connected. Quit Image Capture plug in your camera.... and see what happens.

You can also if you haven't already plug in the camera turn it on and open System Profile in your Utilities folder to see if your camera is even recognized under USB. If it doesn't show up in the System profile chances something is wrong in the camera.

Just out of curiosity are you using an wireless keyboard?

Have you tried your camera with a different memory card?

I am using wireless internet with my laptop, my only machine. I don't understand what that would have to do with this.
The camera is recognized when I check under USB in About this Mac, however, I do not get an icon for the camera (I did in the beginning of all this) on my desktop. I cannot locate image capture, I fear I might have trashed it when I was getting rid of the Sony software that came with the camera. I was advised to get rid of the software by a Mac user at the Sony store. Have not tried the camera with a different memory card, as I only have the one.

I asked {quote}Just out of curiosity are you using an wireless keyboard?{quote} and you answered {quote}I am using wireless internet with my laptop, my only machine I don't understand what that would have to do with this. {quote}
No were did I ask about wireless internet. Just for get about that for now.

Image Capture is part of MAC OS X and has been for a long time. It comes pre-installed in all computers.

The objective of trouble shooting a problem is the process of elimination. So far we have not eliminated anything in all these post here.

{quote}I do not get an icon for the camera (I did in the beginning of all this) on my desktop.{quote}

Plugin your camera open Disk Utility in you Applications > Utilities folder your memory stick should show up there and look like this:

i have the same "4 GB "memory stick pro duo" inserted into a "memory stick duo adapter for compact flash
slot" (AD-MSCF1). "
If it doesn't show up as that then Please format your disk in your camera. If you don't know how then with the camera on:

1. Press the Play back button then
2. Press the Menu button go down to the Format press the AF button to Enter the camera will do the rest.

If your not clear then read the manual.

The Transfer Mode in your camera should be set to Mass Storage. To find that Press the menu button navigate to the Set up menu it's the wrench looking icon. Again if your not clear read the manual.

Sorry for the wireless internet comment, as I read the sentence the word keyboard did not register and the only thing
wireless that came to mind was my connection. (I am blond, but not THAT blond.) I reformatted the card and now have recognition in disk utility and have an icon on my desktop. I'm set to "mass storage". Still don't have image capture, as I said, I may have deleted it during the trashing of the Sony software. I may be able to find Image Capture on a program disk, or with the help of my local Mac store guru, but I'm leaving early tomorrow a.m. for a week of vacation. I'm hoping my 4gig card will see me thru, if not, I'll have to make do with my other cameras. Thank you for your help so far, I will be back in touch when I return. (I will be rereading/ingesting the manual during my airplane sits.)
