Sad. I had not realized MacMinute and MacCentral had the same founder but it makes sense. Since the latest MacWorld redesign eliminated the last references to MacCentral and maccentral.macworld.com and maccentral.com no long point to the site's News section, I've been using on MacMinute more often.

This explains why MacMinute hasn't been updated since Friday. :(

Sorry to hear of the loss.
I'm not sure how relevant it is, but how old was Stan when he passed on? I got the impression from this blog that he wasn't that old.

The world is a much smaller place without him. I have enjoyed both of his creations immensely over the years. Not a day goes by without a visit to both sites. To have a left such a strong mark on the world he lived in is a testament to his importance to the Mac community.

I don't remember exactly when I started reading MacCentral, but it must've been around 1996. I was temporarily living in an Asian developing country at the time, and as you said, the Internet was in its infancy. With dial-up access, constant busy signals, and a powerbook 180c/5300c, daily MacCentral news was heaven, and kept me sane. Thank you, Stan, and rest in peace. I will always remember the early days of MacCentral.

Hi,

my condolences to his family and friend's, even if I hadn't heard of him until now, I sadly admit. But he does sound like "my kinda guy"... :-)

Just curious: why is there no picture of him to be seen anywhere? Or even mention of his age for that matter? Not crucial information, but I'd be interested nonetheless...

cheers,
l2l

edit: oops... never mind the age question. I obviously need to stop leaving the reply window open so long before actually replying...

I was unaware Stan was the founder of MacCentral. I owed him a huge thank you! Too young to go. Sorry you lost your good friend, Jim.

MacCentral was my main Mac news stopping point for many years. Sad to hear Stan passed away, but he leaves a notable legacy.

I'm sorry to hear Stan has passed away. I was a huge fan of the original MacCentral. I'm STILLl looking for a forum for news and Mac developments that rivals it.

Jim, thanks for bringing this to our attention. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and colleague, and of a great contributor to the Mac community and the technology industry overall.

MacCentral was always the first place I went for Mac news because of the simple layout and ease of use. Very sad to hear of Stans passing at such a young age.

Truly sorry for the loss of your friend, Jim. Be encouraged to know how much he touched so many lives, and how many you've been able to because of him. Also know he is home. My prayers are with his family and friends.
