Help: Terminal terminates in Leopard!

I just upgraded my 17" PowerBook G4 (1.33) to Leopard. Everything runs fine and, to my surprise, snappier than with Tiger. However, there is one major problem. Terminal will not run!

Whenever I run terminal or a command that needs it, Terminal launches and then crashes after a minute. No window opens; only the icon in the dock and the menu bar display. I can run iTerm and MacTelnet without trouble. I can run Terminal off the Leopard startup disc when I boot up from it.

But, I cannot run Terminal in Leopard.
