I Have to questions about using a 360 with a mac.

1) How do I use Xbox Live with my macbook pro with dial up. I've seen ti done with a PC, by connecting it to the xbox by the ethernet cord, and then sharing the dial up connection. When I try and do it, the 36 always shows a fail when it does the IP test while trying to connect.

2) How do I upload/capture videos from my 360 with my mac. I want to make a halo 3 montage with some of the video clips I have saved.

thanks, Nick

I'm not sure if this answers all your questions, but this piece of software might be what you're looking for.

I suggest you check out Connect360. It's software that allows the Mac to connect/communicate with the Xbox 360.

Connect360 will do neither of the things you're looking for, don't waste your time.

As to the first issue, I'm not sure how to manage an Internet connection on the Xbox using the Mac as an intermediary, sorry I can't be of more help there.

Regarding recording video of games you're playing on the Xbox 360 using your Mac, you're going to need to attach the Xbox 360's video output to the Mac using one of a variety of video conversion devices. Elgato, Pinnacle, Daystar Technology and others make interfaces that let you record analog video on your Mac. Any of these will work. The important thing is to look at devices that don't have on-board MPEG compression, because that will cause a lag that will make it impossible for you to play the game effectively.

You didn't mention what version of the Mac OS you are using but http://web.mac.com/ctschida/Site/XBLthroughMac.html ( Choose USB Modem or whatever instead of Airport )

I say this with all due respect but there is a reason that any semi-modem console doesn't have a dial-up modem. It's not capable of providing sufficient bandwidth. Even personal computers using dial-up for online gaming back when was a pretty terrible idea. From my fairly large experience with XBL and its issues, my personal opinion is that anyone using XBL should have at least a 3Mbps broadband connection. Anything less can largely impact yours and others experience in online play ( "lag" ). I understand that $$$ and location can determine your ISP and general Internet access choices but that's just what is and one must accept those limitations.

Thanks,

I don't plan on trying to actually play online, I doubt it will work, but I have few games I can download some new content for. I figured it's just as well to use my XBL membership while I still can.

btw, dial up is all we got here on the west coast of Newfoundland:(

I was able to play online with UT2004 on dialup though.

Hi
Ah...I recall the days of dial-up too well yet. I would have thought my mind to have crushed them by now. :) You must have patience but I'd think even DLC will take a long time at ~7KBps. :) Good luck!

Maybe the reason people could do it on a Microsoft Computer is because the Xbox 360 is a microsoft creation. The 360 is probebly compadable with microsoft stuff. Why would microsoft want people to be able to use macs to do stuff to there product.

When you play Live do you use dial up cos if you do you would annoy everyone your playing with because of the lag.

gamers hate lag!!!

Hey guys, me again, had to go back and dig up this topic.

I've moved out of my small little town that only had dial up, living in the city now and going to University. My rez has wifi and im sharing the connection to my xbox. The ip test passes, but the DNS fails, I'm using the # listed under network>airport>advanced>tcp/ip-router as the primary and the first # listed in the DNS column in airport network>airport>advanced>DNS as the secondary.

The ip is 134.153.232.90 I'm not sure if I'm saying this right, but is it out of range or something alone those lines?

Any help is welcome.

Thanks,

Nick

Here is a guide on How to connect your Mac and Xbox 360.
It tells you what to do on both xbox and Mac.
