I am thinking of switching from windows to mac. I have all of my music files on an external hard drive formatted in FAT32. Because I am new to mac, I want to know the process of hooking the external hard drive up to the mac and copying the files over to the mac. Also many of my songs are itunes purchases. Is there anything special I need to consider when transferring those files?

That does not show me the step by step process of hooking up the external drive and transferring the files to the mac. That is what I need to know.

1) Open a new finder window by clicking on the icon in the Dock.
2) Click on the name of the external hard drive under the "Devices" list on the left side of the Finder window. This will open a window that displays all of the content currently on the external hard drive.
3) Drag and drop files from your computer into the external hard drive window. A progress bar will pop up on the screen. When the copying process is complete, the data has been successfully transferred to the external hard drive.
THanks and regards

Andrewkevin's lovely answer left out one step of the process:
4. Stop thinking computing is hard. You're on a Mac now.
