just bought the camcorder and the supplied firewire didn't fit. Need a 4-6 pin firewire says the salesman at B&H, NYC.
but I have a G5 and it didn't connect to my iMovie 6, but I have the iMovie8 (iLife 08). I used my own firewire and iMovie 6 didn't connect. So last night I went to an apple store and the guy said that FCE 4 will accept the 6 pin firewire on a G5. I don't need to buy an Intelcore mac. that would save me a lot of money.
Is this correct? should I buy the Belkin 6 pin firewire and then try the newer iMovie instead of the old version ?
would appreciate all the help, thank you

The problem is not the cable.
Take a look at this camcorder support page for iMovie '08. According to the support page, AVCHD support requires an Intel-based Core Duo Mac or better. I believe the HD-HC9 uses the AVCHD format. If so, then your Sony camcorder will only work with iMovie if you have an intel based Mac
Your G5 isn't compatible. Either take back the camcorder or get yourself a Intel Mac.
