Hello everyone,

This is my first post here but I am at my wits end. I am using a Powerbook G4 10.4.11 (old, I know, work laptop) and have for several months. Our work email address is run through @mail, so that my email address is sacha@ourcompany.com.au. For the whole time I have worked here I have used the Mail application 2.1.3 to recieve and send all my emails from this POP address.

As of Friday, for no reason I can see, I can no longer recieve any email in my Mail application, although I can still send.

I can read my emails through the @mail url, but this is a complete pain.

I have tried shutting the whole application down, checking all my preferences, and in the advanced accounts tab, clicking remove now to delete any messages I have recieved in the server. Nothing.

I called @mail and they said as I can still recieve emails from them in my url inbox its not their problem.

No one can help me it seems!

I really cant afford to lose the many emails I have stored in folders in my Mail application, so I'm afraid of trying to trash and relaunch.

Please help me!

Ditto for me. I use MSN/HOTMAIL Plus and have found that two things happened about the same time. The update to OS X 10.5.3 and Microsoft dropping the HTTP protocol to log in. I've read that the 10.5.3 in and of itself killed HTTPMail Plugin but, to add insult to injury, I can NOT find anywhere the protocols to use in switching MSN Plus to POP3.

I called Apple, Microsoft, and my ISP and all I get is "Gee..... I don't know!"

I can't believe that Apple doesn't know about this and isn't doing something to correct it.

What happens when you run Connection Doctor. Mail, Window menu, Connection Doctor.

Thanks for your response.

I get two green lights, with both connections successful

And I get the opposite - red lights and could not connect to the server. This only is in "Mail". "Entourage" works fine. Go figure?

That's a classic symptom of a problem with your SMTP Server. I wouldn't
be surprised if they've changed something on you.

I run into that because my internet service goes through Comcast, and my
internet "home" is Virginia Tech (vt.edu).

In Account Information is smtp.comcast.net: my-comcast-id
Clicking the Server Settings button shows
outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net
server port: 25
use ssl: checked
authentication: password
user name: my-comcast-id
password: my-comcast-password

I understand but if that were the case, wouldn't Entourage Mail also be affected? This is only with Apple's Mail.app and ocurred exactly when the OS upgrade to 10.5.3 was installed. Oddly enough, I can't see what the setting are in Entoruage as it doesn't show them like Mail does.

There is no doubt, IMHO, that the problem lies with Mail and not with MSN/Hotmail.

I am having the same issue!

Okay, so I am on an archaic eMac (I will be getting a new iMac soon, I hope) and I was using Entourage.
I decided to try switching over to mail and imported all contacts and saved messages just fine.
I can send email from my comcast account but not receive messages. I can't receive from Hotmail in Mail either!
I also just got an iPhone a few days ago and can't receive email on my iPhone, but I did one time and never since, how odd is that!?! (I think it has to do with synching with my computer, is that possible?)

CAN send messages from comcast & hotmail on Mail and on iPhone (uses Mail right?).
CANNOT receive messages from comcast or hotmail on Mail nor on iPhone.

I have searched for solutions and cannot figure out what could be wrong. Entourage is still working fine.
I am running OS X 10.4.11 on my super old eMac at home (Mail on my eMac is 2.1.3).
