Never mind that part of the iphones screen could easily be dedicated to virtual buttons, were the need to arise in a game.
still I think simple controls don't have to mean simple games.

Or...forget on-screen "virtual controls" and accelerometer and use touch/path drawing. Kinda like the latest Zelda and tons of other touch controlled games for the DS. You get less accuracy with a finger than a DS stylus, but if games are designed right, that won't matter. When Halo first came out, plenty of naysayers said that console-based FPS game control would never come close to mouse/keyboard. The same is true of the iPhone. People knock the lack of traditional buttons, but there's no reason it can't have an amazing game experience using only touch screen.
