Where are the iPhone's iPod improvements?

I record content and load it onto the iphone for listening. Sometimes I accidentally press the left side << twice and I end up at the beginning of the item I am playing.
So to try and get back to hour 4, minute 23 I tap the screen at the timeline bar appears. I drag it to the right and try to position to get to the time I want. Horrible Horrible Horrible.
It is impossible to set this precisely. Also most all the time, when I position the time to close to what I want and I lift my finger, the time jumps to another time and I have to try again.
What was great about the scroll wheel on regular ipods is I can just spin the wheel and easily get to where I want to be.
This is my major complaint with the ipod function on the iphone.
I too was hoping for a better user experience with the ipod features.

"Now with 3G, I'd love to see the ability to stream internet radio like iTunes does. (I'm thinking in the car on road trips.) I hope someone comes out with an App to do this."
If your phone is Jailbroken, you can install iRadio and get streaming radio stations just like iTunes. Or you could wait for 2.0 and pay for it.

2 basics that I hate
1) I want the option to not have to slide to unlock every time I turn this thing on
2) Snooze on calendar alarms.
Lack of folder hierarchies for Notes and a good functioning Task to Do (with alarms) are 2 things I wished either Apple would have done or at least 3rd party apps will provide. I'm trying to stop using my Palm and go solo iPhone. SplashData says they will have Splashid so that is a major app that I'll be using.

As a few others have noted, the interface for scrubbing is currently problematic. This is particularly acute for longer audio tracks, like audiobooks or podcasts. The on-screen slider is far too short for longer tracks, less than 2 inches long, which gives you no precision at all; by comparison, scrubbing using the scroll wheel on a traditional iPod, by virtue of being able to go around the wheel multiple times, is more like a (virtual) foot long, or longer (actually it's infinite, but practically speaking, even a couple more inches than the iPhone's slider would be enough). Much, much more precise.
The other part of the scrubbing interface that's (incredibly) irritating is that once you get (close to) where you're going, taking your finger off the slider almost always changes the playback position, randomly. Maybe this is no big deal when you're talking about a 3 minute song track, but it's brutal when you're trying to get to a certain spot in a 45 minute podcast or a 6 hour audiobook track, because you don't jump by a couple seconds, you jump by minutes. Plural. Randomly.
But of course, I only do this a few times a day, no big deal...

Absolutely correct - on both accounts.
I think a good solution would be to make the scrub bars indicators only, tapping them would bring up a virtual scroll wheel HUD (semi-transparent so you can still see the movie in case of video) that would logically adjust/rubber-band its scrolling strength to the track length. This should be far more usable, as it is by design infinite - there is a limit to what you can do with slider controls when you are limited to 320 pixels in width.

In terms of Ipod functuality, what if you could hold down the Home button on the Iphone/Ipod Touch and get a faded version of the menu you were just looking at, with a slightly tinted black background, and then have colored (because a white-on black-on white sheme doesn't work so well) control labels (for play/pause/stop/rewind/fast forward/skip song/return to previous song/so on and so forth.
It wouldn't be a complete fix for the need for hardware buttons, but it could be a temporary solution/fix for Iphone without hardware buttons.
And on the button part, Apple could just add a retro slew of buttons (from the first generation of Ipod Classics, with the click wheel that couldn't handle controls), and handle it that way. (Or they could do it my way, the cool way. Have a slideable solar panel cover that covers the front of the Iphone when not in use, making so you could charge the Iphone with the panels, and then when you use it, you slide the cover back, and there's your slightly indented version of the click wheel, complete with volume slider.)
Now if only they could figure out how to generate electricity from the accerlerator bouncing around in your pocket...

I would love to see wifi syncing. If the Zune can do it, surely the iPhone can.
On a related note, I'd love to be able to download podcasts over wifi (at a minimum) or the network for 3G. There are many times I'm on travel for work and I'd like to get the latest podcast before getting on the plane, but I don't want to have to get out my laptop, download it, tether my iPhone and then sync it just to get the episode.
If they can sell music through ITMS over wifi, why not podcasts?

This is not an iTunes related iPhone request, but it is for the iphone. I couldn't find a forum for my comment so here I am.
The iPhone is being heralded as a pocket computer, and with all the new apps coming down the pike it's going to come close to it - an amazing feat for sure. It's biggest downfall as far as I'm concerned is a proper keyboard. The virtual keyboard is nifty, but it takes me from struggling to reach 35 to 40 words per minute to struggling to reach 5 or 7. My fingers are big and I have trouble hitting the keys I want to. I make FREQUENT errors. One of the biggest things the iPhone is missing to make the pocket computer dream a reality is a decent keyboard. Think Outside makes a nice foldable bluetooth one that's not much bigger than the iphone itself, but as far as I know, it, nor any of the other pocket keyboards are compatible with the iPhone. Are they coming soon? Is it up to Apple or the developers to make it happen? Is it a firmware or software issue?
Though it wouldn't work to pull out a keyboard every time I want to send a quick note or text message, if I'm going to use the iphone as a serious email device or for word processing with traveling for business, I'm going to need to be able to pull out a more serious keyboard to do the job. I'm amazed I haven't heard anyone mention this in any of the articles, forums or reviews I've read on the iphone. Has everyone has banded together to play a cruel joke on me by not mentioning this fatal flaw in Apples plan to take over the smart phone world? All right, so maybe it's not that bad, but do I at least have a point, that a portable bluetooth keyboard would make the iphone way cooler and more productive?

Yes, better scrubbing is needed.
I suggest a wired remote device that contains an actual in-line scroll wheel. It would work just like the scroll wheel we've come to know and love with the iPod Classic. It would not only provide easier and more precise scrubbing, but would also provide easier one-touch wake-up of the iPhone for resumption of currently playing tracks on the iPod. And because it is a scroll wheel with a center button, you would be able to use it by feel and not have to look at the iPhone, slide to unlock it, tap twice, look at it, tap again and tap and look and tap (and then tap) to play a track.

In case it hasn't been brought up in this thread and I missed it,
