Once again Microsoft has raised my blood pressure. They just released update 12.1.1 for Officce 2008. It opens fine but will not update my two computers using 10.5.3. Anyone successfully upgraded and if so how? This stuff is junk. :(

I finally succeeded installing Office 2008 upgrade. Here is how I did it:

1. Download the two upgrades (12.10 and 12.11)

2. Delete the folder “Office 2008” that contains the applications.

3. Reinstall Office 2008 from your original disk

4. Apply the two upgrades

What a pain.

I just installed on a Mac Pro with OS X 10.5.3. Nary a single glitch. Followed the instructions and it installed with no problems in about 2 minutes. All applications run fine.

I am sure there are many who had no problems. I never modified the application, its components, or the enclosing folder. I have two computers with 10.5.3 and some 3rd party system add-ons. This should have had no influence on the install. I deleted the 2008 folder and installed again and then installed 12.1.0 and 12.1.1. All worked this time. Strange problem that effected both my Mac G5 and MacBook Pro.

I had the same problem (OSX 10.4.11), I had to delete Office 2008 entirely,
via AdditionalTools/Remove Office, after first removing all my own files in
that folder. Then a fresh install of Office 2008, followed by the 12.1.0 update
and then the 12.0.1 update.

Just trashing the Office 2008 folder didn't cut it for me.

I preceded all this by vetting the HD with AppleJack and Disk Warrior.

(1) With the Entourage of Office 2004, I composed msgs with many formatting, e.g., indentation, underline, etc., etc., and could copy it into WORD without any trouble. All of those formatting were intact.

(2) However, when I did the same into WORD of the Office 2008 version, all of formatting were removed.

(3) I complained this to Microsoft as soon as I bought it at its release, and made many phone discussions with its tech support people. They finally gave up this issue and gave me a phone number where I could get its money back.

I then waited its updates, but its updated version 12.1.0 nor 12.1.1 has not been corrected this trouble.

Does anyone have any suggestion what I can do?

Best, Tak
