Hey Guys... Right now I’m formatting my Vista laptop (again!).... And I’m so happy to report that I’ll be ordering my MacBook Pro in the morning. So...I’m enlisting your help with my conversion. Some of the conversion won’t be difficult because of ‘how’ I use my computer right now...
I use Adobe CS3... No problem there
MS Office... for business purposes, I’ll continue to use the Mac version as well as Google Docs.
What I’m trying to figure out is what programs are the best for the following:

1) Currently I use: CuteFTP... what will be the switch?

2) I need a good font manager that will allow me to: Preview the font, type in a sample word to see what it looks like in that font, ‘Load’ that font as vs. ‘Install’ ...and it would be nice if the program could allow me to search for a font say....search San Serif fonts ‘only’... but my current Font manager can’t do that... so that’s just a bonus...
3) I use a great program called “AnyDVD” made by Slysoft to decrypt DVD’s on the fly and then rip them to Divx (I don’t allow the kids to have their DVD’s anymore...I put those in a safe place and then put the ripped copies on the network for their viewing pleasure). So...what do I use on the Mac?

4) MS OneNote... One of the single best programs I have ever used! Any suggestions for this one?

5) AntiVirus...errr...lol...never the mind....

6) Since I won’t be using Outlook... is there a To-Do program that has a desktop version that also works with the iPhone? (after years of WinMo...I’m making the switch on the phone as well)

7) There is a great little program called SpaceMonger that maps out your entire computer and tells you where all of your files are and what is taking up ‘what’ space on the hard drive. It then lets you zoom into those sections so you can delete that stuff of move it around. Any ideas here? Anyway to ...say once your hard drive gets full or down to 10Gb’s that you can easily see ‘where’ all the space has gone?

8) Super... Yup..that’s the name of the program...”Super”...it is the single most useful ‘Everything’ converter I have ever used. You can convert Audio & Video into any format you want. I’ve even used it to extract audio from a Youtube video into mp3 format. So... anything like this?

9) Moffsoft FreeCalc ( www.moffsoft.com/freecalc.htm ) Although it’s a simple program..it’s the best calculator I have ever used.

10) Last but not least...I’m just looking for a good text editor.
Now...although I am not opposed to using Fusion to run XP and use some of these programs, my hopes are to not have to boot up XP at all...if I can help it. But...I’m always open.
So...anyone got any ideas?

I'd be glad to help you here.
for your apps

1) For file transfers iChat offers plenty solutions, with transfers over the AIM network or the wireless network using bonjour, iChat works

2) Preloaded on all mac is Font Book, which should satisfy your needs, it shows your every letter and number of a given font, lets you zoom, etc.

3) To rip DVDs use Handbrake, Handbrake Lite, Mac the Ripper, or iSquint

4) There is no OneNote for mac, however in MS Word for mac, notebook view is similar and gives you many of the same capabilities

5) Don't get to cocky, it's always a good idea to have anti-virus software, no known viruses doesn't equal no viruses, I suggest Net Barrier

6) iCal and mail both have to do's in them, to do's made in mail appear in iCal you can even make to do's in notes you make in mail

7) Grand Perspective is the unanimously decided best tool for this.

8) try Tube TV it can download videos from youtube and other sites, (flash based) it converts them to mp4, it can convert flv to mp4. iTunes can convert most audio and video types as well.

9) Calculator is preloaded on all macs, you can use a basic, scientific, or a programmer calculator

10) There are many text editors out there, try BBEdit or SubEthaEdit, both are used by macworld

THere are also many windows emulators, that let you run windows applications without virtualization.

I suggest you watch the Leopard guided tour to ease your transition, it tours apple apps like mail and ical for you, find it at

http://www.apple.com...osx/guidedtour/

I hope this all helps you
Happy Switching!
