luckywabbit, you are luckier than you think! If I'd been quicker, for $20 I could have had those apps on the iPod Touch for the last 6 months. As it is, I save a little money, but had to way half a year for it! Not worth it. You had the better deal.
Chris, thanks for posting an article to help clarify our questions! :) And thanks to Jon Seff for his replies in the other thread ( http://forums.macwor...m/thread/102409 )
iPod touch and the missing apps

Anyone know whether the iPod Touch will be updated on July 11? I'm looking to buy one and I'm willing to wait. There's a potential price discrepancy between the 3G iPhone (8GB for $199) and the iPod Touch (8GB for $299). Is this difference entirely due to phone carrier subsidies? If so, how could they have made that subsidy work worldwide? Plus, the iPod Touch is currently involved in this summer's educational promotion, so that could delay an update until autumn.
Of course, the 3G iPhone has yet to go on sale, so there is still time for this to change. Plus, the iPhone will have real GPS, so will the iPod Touch get this, too? With the potential for location based software, I think this would really limit the iPod touch if GPS were not included. I'm just anxious to get my iPod Touch, and if it gets GPS a month after I buy, I would be very sad.

No credit card - can I upgrade?
I don't have a credit card and use pre-paid vouchers for all my iTunes purchases. Will I be able to buy the upgrade and buy from the apps store in this way?
As this is my first ever post I thought I'd ask another question - I have a 32GB Touch and a Nokia N95 which is a wonderful phone. I am completely torn as to whether I get an iPhone 3G (I live in the UK so can buy a 'Pay As you Go' iPhone. My head says no - my touch will do everything I want and my N95 is a workhorse (5M camera, turn-by-turn GPS etc. etc.) but my heart is telling me to buy one 'cos it's Apple! Help!

luckyrabit,
technology and software has new revisions over time. For example, before, the iPod Nano had 2GB of memory for $149, now 4GB memory for the same price, so does that mean I got ripped off $50? (4GB - 199). No. There's always something new around the corner, it's very common with Apple products. Especially the iPod. When you make choices, don't look back.

yes, you can upgrade. and you can also buy apps this way, no problem. to answer ur second question, it depends on you. I can't say which is the "better" decision because it's a matter of opinion. But, go to the apple store and have a look. Th iPhone 3G is thicker, plastic back, same camera (2mp), and real GPS. other than that, it has the 2.0 software.
