I am currently using 10.4.11, with an external hard drive also bootable in Tiger, on a PPC Dual. I am on the verge of replacing this set-up with a Mac Pro using Leopard. But I want to keep the current external hard drive bootable in Tiger, to run software not currently compatible with Leopard. The problem is that my Tiger Install disk predates intel Macs, and Apple tells me that I need a universal binary version of the Tiger Install disk for it to boot up when attached to an intel Mac. In short, I bought my Tiger disk too soon! Can anyone tell me where to buy or borrow such a disk or, if possible, suggest an alternative solution?

borrow is not a legal option.
and if you buy a current Mac Pro... it will come with latest OS and will NOT boot into an older OS.
so your option for the Mac Pro to boot into Tiger is to buy an older unit with Tiger on it.
apple has always had this limitation of preventing older OS on new Macs.

Actually, I have always been able to boot into earlier versions of OSX on my external drive. In the current case, the Resident Genius at the Apple Store said that if I had had the universal binary version of Tiger on my external drive (or had such a disk available), the Mac Pro (with Leopard on its hard drive) would boot into an Intel version of Tiger on a bootable external drive. The problem stems from the fact that the Software Update procedure never brought the Tiger system that I paid for up to date Intel-wise. Software Update is supposed to bring you up to date with any improvements over the initial version. I am trying to remedy this defect one way or another. As far as I can tell, neither Apple nor or any of its resellers have 10.4 available.
