Thanks for the review. I've been waiting for VB X5 reviews before pulling the trigger. Left XP behind about 5 months ago and I just feel naked without AV software. Now if some X4 users that upgraded to X5 will post their comments...

Which is a better antivirus software: 1) VB X5, 2) Norton Antivirus v11 or 3) McAfee?

So, despite the fact that trojan is not a virus, the virus-database in this software should have only one (!) item. But no.. it contains plethora of Windows garbage and software designer's real hope that OS X users are so naive to buy it.
The ONLY use for this software is to make sure your Windows friends can be alerted by you with "hey, you sent me some Windows virus in your mail. It is harmless to OS X but I just want you to know you have a virus.."

Due to small amount of virus/trojan/malware... for OS X...dont you think that,in any case, should be enough with a good online scanner for this S.O?

Exactly. We know most of our windows friends and all of our corporate contacts are running anti malware software, so why should we be using our resources to reprocess their problems. I've got better things for my system to work on. That includes sitting idle and cool. ;)

"Intego's fast, accurate antivirus program sports a new interface"
Fast because there's nothing to scan for.
Accurate because all it has to do is say "no viruses found" and it'll be correct 100% of the time.
"Intego will then send you an e-mail whenever a new virus definition is available–a nice touch."
Buzzz... wrong answer. A "nice touch" would be if it simply downloaded the new definitions itself without having your email address to spam... you know, like OS X itself does it.
How much $ did Intego pay to have this "review" printed?

ClamAV rocks, especially for a free software. None of this bloated eyecandy needed.
To those who sit smug with their OSX loveliness: http://snipurl.com/osx_virus
(Macintosh Viruses and Mac Virus Resources)
Some of us use Parallels with Windows and such. To us, an antivirus is a must. I use ClamAV on OSX, and have installed the fantastic combo of Comodo Firewall and AVG anti virus (both also free) inside Parallels.

The question I'd like to see answered is why upgrade from version 4? Certainly not just for that "lovely" (NOT) UI. I can still purchase and use the actual virus updates though NetUpdate in V4. So why actually upgrade the app?

This may be a "non-standard" interface in the sense that it doesn't homogenize itself to look like iTunes like every other developer is doing, but I believe Macworld is old enough to remember when the dull gray look of iTunes was not the standard at all. Developers used to try to make their program interfaces interesting and stand out as best as possible. Now that Apple has moved to a "standard interface", developers seem to believe that they must also. Pity. I commend Intego for being different!
