So much data; so little space. I'm about to purchase a one Terabyte drive. Time Capsule does not seem to be a good solution for me. Tying up bandwidth for backups might cause a problem. So I'm looking at a FW-connected drive. I have two G-Tech drives: 250 GB and 500 GB (RAID 0). No problems for the year I've owned them. But the reviews on the Apple site aren't that good. I'm looking for advice. Thanks.

Check out our roundup of 750GB and 1TB drives from earlier this year.

I just purchased a Western Digital My Book Studio Edition 1TB drive. It comes already formatted for the Mac (HFS+ extended). Quad interface (USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, eSATA). Works perfectly with Time Machine. Five year guarantee. Sweet machine. A bit pricey at $320 but worth it in my opinion.

Thanks, Jon. I appreciate the information, and found the article less than complete. User ratings varied considerably from the author's findings. Which are usualy more valid in your experience?

I'm leaning in that direction. Thanks.

I bought a 1TB MyBook Studo for my TM backups, and have been very happy with it.

I use a OneTouch 4Plus by Maxtor. Works great as a Time Machine drive with my Macbook Pro.

I've purchased several of the Newer Technology drives with the additional ports, both USB and Firewire, and have had great luck with them all.

Bob.
