I'm getting the same errors as everybody else. Two different times now I've gotten a long "accessing itunes store" without an immediate error. The first one ended up with the same error as usual. This one's still going but I'm basically going to have to leave my phone at home while I go to work.

And speak of the devil, after 5 minutes of looking like it was going to do something I just got "an unknown error occurred -9844"

I'm glad I have a blackberry from work at least.

Apple, this sucks. Add some freakin' app servers!

WHAT IS GOING ON? Any update - official or otherwise? I'm sat twiddling my thumbs - waiting with my iPod touch (still with v.1.14) to install the apps I've already downloaded. You'd think that Apple, given the importance of this launch, would have had contigencies to sort out this mess. Instead - a mass of frustrated users who are thinking twice about the hype, effort... and cost of sticking with Apple. Disappointing.

Nobody is missing anything. Apple and AT&T servers are flooded, crashing, and Apple is pulling the plug on some servers. SOme people have squeezed in. I too am trying to update my touch, and have been sitting in front of my computer basically since 8:00 this morning trying to update.

I am going to go crazy!

@Raj909,

I've been working on mine for an hour now...were you plugging and unplugging or just moving from your iPhone to your library until it connected?

I'm getting the same trouble updating that everyone else is getting. Though I downloaded the 2.0 update, itunes continues to attempt to access the store. So I have a $400 paperweight on my desk right now. Good work, Mr. Jobs.

From reading the message boards at Apple, which were down a few minutes ago but were working earlier, the -9838 error does mean the server is busy. You would think that the press, including Mac, would have information on this if I do. I also know that if you stick with it, and keep trying to get your iPhone to link with the iTunes store (if it times out, click anywhere else in the sidebar, then click back on your iPhone, eventually it will work.

I spoke to Apple Care a moment ago. They suggested that we disconnect the iphones from our pc's or macs and try again in an hour or two. Again, the servers are down. Your iphone will be okay even though it will be in limbo till you are able to update successfully. Best.

Keep trying. I had a bricked phone for about 2 hours, I kept reconnecting to the itunes store and it finally activated. Finally.....

All - I started on my this process about 1.5 hours ago. I was able to download fine - Once the iphone restarted and wanted to connect to itunes then I started having the error problem everyone else is describing. I started out by clicking music and back to the iphone to see if I could get it to go - That didn't work so I tried plugging and unplugging the phone - I even tried closing itunes, restarting it and connecting the iphone again - same result (all of this many times) in the end I just kept clicking music and back to the iphone and finally it just worked. I am up and running. Interestingly my iphone still will not connect to itunes now to install apps. I get an error -4 now but my phone is completely up and running. It does take time to reload all your songs and video if you have it on so plan on waiting a while once you do get connected. Hope this helps you!

Had this happen three times before, they will fix it at the Genius Bar, but you can also reset the iPhone, after which you have to start syncing from scratch.

After trying to run the update, my iPhone is now in 'emergency calls only' mode, and appears to be completely erased. When I try to get it to update again, iTunes message window says "Accessing music store...", and then it fails, giving me the message: "Could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-4) There was an error in the iTunes Store. Try again later."
I certainly hope that iTunes has a backup of my iPhone tucked away somewhere, but I'm not too confident.
Most of all, however I am very angry that my iPhone is now NOT WORKING and I have to leave my office and NEED IT TODAY.
