iTunes indicates that you can update the touch to 2.0. But instead of asking you to purchase it when you click Update, it installs the 2.0 update that's already on your Mac.
Is the iPod touch 2.0 update worth $10?

DANG IT i bought that software update a while back for $20 and now theyre just mocking all of us that did buy it by putting all that old stuff on AND EVEN COOLER STUFF FOR HALF THA PRICE! man its like Steve Jobs is just sitting in his office laughing at us going, man all those guys who bought it are gonna be SOOOO pissed at me but thats just gonna make them buy more of my awesome crap. And the really sad thing is? It worked. Crap, im buying that new piece of bogus software. mine is jailbroken rite now, but this could be the solution because then if you had iLiberty you could have the app update AND HAVE IT JAILBROKEN!! I run my iPod Touch from a PC. Posts in this thread refer to the update sitting on your mac. Is it just as good to do the update on a PC. I don't purchase things from iTunes shop as I'm too busy just getting all my vinyl onto mine. I have about 600 albums done so far. I also have 11,000 pictures which is great. I've never downloaded a film and have no ide how to. I use the Touch wirelessly for safari and emails which is good. Given these considerations, is there any point in me getting the update to 2.0 can anyone say?
