I am running Leopard on a Macbook Pro Core Duo laptop and I installed an Airport Extreme Time Capsule base station and was able to do the initial backup of my Macbook pro. The original network had a HP printer attached to the base station via the USB port. It also had two Airport Express remotes -- one attached to an Epson photo printer and the other attached to my DirecTV receiver. The network was set up as WDS. When I tried the printer, I couldn't get it to print, so I disconnected the Airport Express from the TV receiver and used it as a remote for the printer. I made the appropriate changes and everything worked. I then bought a new Airport Express remote and connected it to the DirecTV receiver. Everything worked as far as internet connection is concerned. It is still a WDS network, which is required for DirecTV. The problem is that I can no longer back up to the Time Capsule base station. It starts off saying that it is preparing and never gets out of that mode. I have started to use an external USB drive for backups, but would like to be able to go back to using the Time Capsule. Can any one offer any suggestions, other than to ditch the Time Capsule?

Sometimes after major changes in your backup setup, it takes forever to "prepare the backup". My recommendation is to plug the computer in via ethernet to the Time Capsule and let the backup run overnight. If this doesn't work, then, you might have more serious setup problems to address. I don't see any reason why your setup shouldn't work properly though.
