Nice that Jobs can admit when Apple's messed up. A statement to the general press would be even better, rather than just Apple employees. I have yet to see MobileMe sync anything for me automatically.

What exactly is Apple's standard now days anyway?
Just read the other day about all of the Nvidia 8400 and 8600 mobile cards being bad. (Just so happens that those are the exact cards in the macbook pros.)
...you know, the macbook pros with the LED displays which have been plagued with issue (screen) ever since they came out. (from uneven lighting to lines, etc.) Probably due to the Nvidia cards? (Who knows, apples aint saying.) ;)
Yeah, Apple used to mean quality...but not so long ago they fell prey to the thermal goop issues and things were over heating.
Lets not forget about battery and power cord issues for macbooks.
They always make it sound like its new...I have had power cord issues back since the Pismo when they had theirs recalled...(and batter issues with the titaniums, etc.)
So, Mobile Me not up to Apples standards? That must really be crap then? ;)
Yes, I am a mac addict by the way - never owned a PC. :)
Well was, now Im a mac realist - the point with the mac now is I still like working with this OS as well as Apples applications.
Peace

Yeah, I don't understand why they don't make these kind of emails public. They always end up getting out anyway, and a public statement would make everything seem a little less underhanded.

Why doesn't Apple make a press release? Because this is better. Apple knows it will be leaked, and it makes the message more interesting.

Yes, I agree, Mobile Me was certainly not up to Apple's standards. However, MobileMe is unique in that it wasn't the supplier (e.g., video card, LED displays, batteries, etc.), but Apple and its crew that failed this time. Promising so much on one day was completely unrealistic.
I still prefer Apple products because they are still leaps and bounds ahead of all the rest. However, this time they fumbled the ball. Hopefully, they'll recover from this mishap.
After two weeks of problems, MobileMe has been flawless for me.

Apple hasn't assembled any computers other than some of the Intel Mac Pros & thus probably some of the G5 Power Macs. That means that for the most part Apple designs most of their computers ‡ such, but third party manufactures are really the ones that do the building & assembly. Thus they have no real control over the manufacturing process. They just pay the cheapest Chinese labor like so many of the computer hardware selers.

Apple has given up their job as computer maker & given it to others that do not always do a very good job of assembling. Nvidia & ATI use the same Chinese assembly process. They do't make anything, just do some of the designing. I know the quality of my Macs & the associated hardware went down a lot after the various different items went to Chinese manufacture. My Kensington trackballs are disposable now. They have a certain much shorter life & must be tossed.

So why would Apple be any different. At one time we felt that we were paying a higher price for a better built product. Now we're just buying an overpriced product that is making Steve Jobs & those that own Apple stock richer.

But I thought that Apple didn't owe any explanation to anyone. What happened to "If you don't like it, don't buy it?"

People bought it based on Apple promises. Most of those are now broken. Do you blame Apple or the consumer for this?

Probably because their legal department said that there will probably be a class action suit or 2 or 3 about this MobilMe mistake. Sometimes I wonder if Apple spends more money on R & D or legal work.

Well, well, well, how interesting it is that the introduction of a poorly tested and not up to "Apple's Standards" the MobileMe release was but as I stated earlier it was a Career Limiting Move for the person in charge. I hate it when I'm right on such things.
I still like my other Apple products but MobileMe got booted from my list of good things coming out of Apple.
