Canon Image Browser crash workaround

I find the Canon Image Browser useful for throwaway photos I want to make quick, 4 on an 8.5x11 sheet tiled prints.
Somewhere along the upgrade path — OS and/or application — the app now crashes as it starts to print to a non-default printer.
Workaround: temporarily make the desired printer the default printer.

If anyone has a better idea, I would love to hear it.
