As soon as I read this article, I switched my ATV from HDMI to component cables.
Using a HDMI cable, I had to restart the ATV pretty much every time I switched to it from my cable box. Using component cables, I haven't had a single hangup. Not one. And at least on my 32" Sony Bravia LCD HDTV, I don't see any difference in quality at all.
If you're using a HDMI cable and have trouble, the component cables are worth a shot. I really can't believe how much of a difference it made. It's a completely different device - that is, it "just works" the way Apple products should.

It sounds like it's still not ready for primetime.
I wonder if plugging the ATV into an Airport Extreme with a USB hard drive plugged into that would help too? Do they have the same footprint? ATV and Airport Extreme that is?

Apple TV is wider than the AirPort Extreme. Also, they both should be on the top as the Apple TV uses the top as a heat vent and the AirPort Extreme's antennas are on the top.
