I'm using Leopard's Mail v3.3 for email. About a month ago, when I would click on the Send button to transmit a new email, I would get a pop-up window saying that it couldn't send the email with the connected server. It asked me to select a server or try with the selected server. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't and the email ended up in the Outbox. Usually, it would get sent at a later time.

When I click on the diagnostic box in the pop-up window, it shows I am connected to the 'net, so that's not the problem (I use a broadband connection). I've added no new software or made any significant changes to my system. I'm current on my software updates.

I've closed and reopened the Mail program, shut down the computer, restarted etc, but the problem persists.

Any ideas what's going on? Could this be a problem at my ISP location? I ask because my wife uses Panther on her Mini and said she's having the same problem.

Thanks, Bob.

Bob, that sounds very much like your ISP (or your mail server, which can
be different - ours is) changed something. Transparently, of course.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking, too. Our smallish ISP was recently bought out and I've emailed them about the problem. They emailed back, asking me to call and talk directly to their tech support.

Will keep you advised.

Bob.

I talked to the tech support at the ISP and they had me look at my pref settings in Mail. We added a new server, pretty much duplicating the 'old' setting, but, it seems to have worked. I've sent several test messages and several 'real' messages and they 'go' promptly when the Send button is pressed.

I've done the same thing for my wife's computer using Panther and will see if it solves her identical problem, too.

Thanks, Bob.
