File Sharing article: SharedDocs folder is Empty!??

I have no problem allowing the Win XP on my network to see the shared or public folder on my G5 Leopard, but for some reason, although I've followed the article in July 2008 (p. 88), I cannot see any documents in my WIN XP SharedDocs folder on my Mac's Network. I can see the Doc, but not any contents. I see a recursive (like an alias) folder of my shared doc folder inside my shared doc folder, and creating a shortcut on my desktop caused my XP to crash the desktop. So I don't know if my system is porked... But once I move a doc into the folder, I am not allowed to move it out. AFAIK, I created the correct sharing permissions for the folder, but it is turning into a nightmare...

Any help appreciated.
