This also works with MP3 streams downloaded from the internet. Typically ending with the (.pls) file extension. Or sometimes (.m3u).
Can't stand the music on this station, but it does air the good 'ole Baylor Bears football games:
http://www.mandatoryfm.com/listen.php - Then click iTunes, and it will download the (.pls) file. Double-click the file to open it in iTunes.
After that, you do the same thing as above. Put the file into a playlist of your choice and sync you Apple TV. It works great.

I had the same plan for the Kansas State games until I discovered that the games are blacked on radio station streams this year, probably because of a deal the school has with Yahoo where I could pay $5 per month for the privilege. Ugh!

OR...you could just start playing the station you want in the iTunes on your computer, then change the Multiple Output option in the bottom right corner of the iTunes window to AppleTV. Why bother with the playlist/sync hassle?
I know it doesn't give you the ability to switch stations FROM the AppleTV, but i would think most people using this feature are doing it to a) listen to the game - as noted by the previous commenters; or b) put on a party mix and just let it go.

Either way, the "Multiple Output" option is MUCH easier than dealing with Playlists.

The problems must have been with an old version of the Apple TV software, 'cause I've never had a problem with the playlists syncing over so it's really no hassle at all.
However, you do bring up a good point on using the Apple TV like another airport express. I've got an express going out to the outdoor patio speakers, the Apple TV, and another express in the upstairs.
That's when using multiple speakers just from iTunes really becomes awesome, cause then you're listening to the game throughout the whole house, PLUS with the remote app on the iPhone, well then it just becomes magical.

Could you elaborate on this a little more? Right now I have my computer upstairs and the ATV is attached to my TV downstairs. Using this tip, I can change radio stations right from the TV. But it'd be very cool to have it play in some other rooms, too. I have two spare Airport expresses. How would I use them -- and not mess up my existing network -- to have the sound from the radio stations go to other rooms?

Martinrice. So you'll need to make each of your AirPort Express units join your existing wireless network which I'm assuming is something like a regular AirPort Extreme base station?

You can have the AirPort Express stations join and extend your network, but if your network coverage is already fine, then I would highly recommend to join and NOT extend your network. It's kind of like putting the Expresses in appliance mode, and you'll get much better audio streaming performance.

Plug in your AirPort Express stations and do a reset on them while plugged in (hold the reset button down for about 6 seconds or until the light starts flashing). After they've reset you'll see some generic Apple Network XXXX wireless networks that you can connect to. You'll have to do each one at a time. But you connect to each network and set it up to join your main already in place network that earlier I assumed was being run by an AirPort Extreme base station.

Follow these steps in the AirPort utility to join your new base stations to your existing network, but not extend the network. NOTE: in these pictures "Viva N" is my existing network, so there you'll enter your existing network name and authentication if it's protected by either WPA or WEP.

Okay after all that. In iTunes, whether you are playing a regular song or a streaming radio station you can click the "Multiple Speakers" option. You can check your Apple TV (this makes your Apple TV work just like an AirPort Express), and both of you AirPort Express stations to play sound from your iTunes through.

And there you go. You're set. Now, the Remote app for the iPhone makes this really great, because you can control your iTunes library from your iPhone. So no matter where you are at in the house you can play/pause, or select/search music / radio streams from your entire iTunes library.

LOL... yeah, them playlists be a HUGE hassle, huh?? (as if I didn't already have one with favorite radios stations set up)

Guess what? There are actually other people (or should I even say countries?) that are worried about energy consumption or rather are energy conscious. To suggest that running TWO machine's amounting to several HUNDRED watt's in consumption(!) to listen to a mere internet radio station (it's bad and unbelievable enough as it is that Apple, claiming to be "green", didn't give the ATV an OFF switch!) is somehow BETTER than just spending 30 seconds to only have to use ONE machine instead is plain ridiculous. Ouch.

whats also hot about this is that itunes can be playing the same station on my macbook thru the speakers attached to it...and the apple tv at the same time...didnt plan that but it works great...love it thanks for the new idea
