looks ugly, windoZ style...
WHY to do that ???
The Dock is the most beautiful feature in Mac.
The switchers are so used to ugly windoZ, and tasteless designs, they keep thinking windoZ is still the best, and Mac is only a sidekick.
That's the power of brainwashing by msofT

This really looks like something MS would come up with... yuck.
I use the free utility Witch - it is an alternative to OS X' built-in task switcher and happily lists all application windows without creating a nightmare UI and wasting horizontal screen real estate. Witches settings list nicely under System Preferences, no mousing required (uses a global shortcut) - perfect. Link: http://www.manytricks.com/witch/
Correction/Edit: Seems Witch is no longer free - version 1 was free, version 2 goes for 9.95. Seems I just made me spend some money :-)

I don't understand the scoffing. It's not like anyone is forcing you to use this app. If it makes a switcher happy, what's wrong with that? There are plenty of people (like me) who use Fruit Menu to make the Apple Menu more useful - more like OS 9, and ASM to provide OS 9 window behavior and an OS 9 application menu. There are hundreds of utilities for enhancing the OS X user experience. What's wrong with having choices? The Mac isn't a religion. Nor is there any politically correct or orthodox way to use one.
Mac snobbery just alienates other people. Which may be the subconscious point of it all. As long as Mac users are an "elite" minority, some of them can feel superior. If the Mac becomes popular or, heaven forfend, ubiquitous, the elite value will be diminished. And the snobs will have to find some other way to stroke their own egos.

The Dock is easy to use, stays out of my way and there are a number of improvements in 10.6. I use hot corners to do the rest and faster.
Being a hardcore XP user at work and an OS X user at home for me it's no contest. I don't dislike the XP taskbar but it can get bloated quickly making it a pain to use.
