I got my MacBook on Wednesday. I've been obsessing over it. So I decided to clean it with the only thing I had, Windex. The outside looks nice and shiny.
However, when cleaning the keyboard, I noticed that it has slightly discolored a small area near the trackpad. How can I get them off?
Please help me!

-Hi,

Since Windex might have ammonia or ammonia D-serine in it, which is a cleaner enzyme, you might want to use a warm water solution with Ivory liquid. Ivory also has a mild enzyme but its a little more mild. Its worth a try.

Actually, I did some intense web surfing and heard some great reviews about the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It took the stains right off!

What can I use to clean the outside plastic? I went to the Apple store last night, and the guy stifled his laughter when I told him my story. He told me clean the screen with water only. Will the ammonia stain my plastic?

-Hi,

Gosh, I wouldn't use ammonia on a laptop, but if you're curious you could try ammonia on something thats plastic. B-)

There is tons of info about this on the web. Ammonia is harmful to plastics, coatings, etc. There are optical cleaners available that are safer than water, and leave the case / screen perfectly clean without streaks. Tap water can leave deposits.

Don't use anything, unless it's something like Klear Screen. That's all I've used for the past three years.
