Well, given that TextMate is a text editor and Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG Webpage/site development application, the former is obviously cannot be compared to the latter let alone serve as an alternative. TextMate is more comparable to TextEdit, TextWrangler, BBEdit, etc. What exactly is it that you wish to accomplish?

oh ... I guess I didn't catch that Textmate was 'just' a text editor.

I need an inexpensive replacement for Dreamweaver - just to keep my website up to date.

Macworld UK has praised Softpress? Freeway for years. Macworld.com reviewed Freeway 5 Pro 11 days ago. The pro version is $249, but Freeway 5 Express is only $79. You can see the difference between the Pro and Express versions here.

What's your sense about coda.

Seems worth the $99

I used to use panic software a while back.

My Web authoring experience is limited to first hard coding in HTML, playing a little with Adobe PageMill, then moving on to Dreamweaver, which I have used ever since. I only of know Freeway due to the years of high praise I saw for the app when I picked up copies of Macworld UK; I never bothered to install the free copies that came with Macworld issues from time-to-time as I was already using Dreamweaver. So, unfortunately I really could not tell you much about other Web development apps.

coda at first glance is like 10 times faster than Dreamweaver and more intuitive.
I already like it !
Time to update my tired old webpage and get into the CSS . . .
