My son would like to play games made for Windows on my Mac, is there a way this can be done without severely affecting the quality of the game?

If you owned a Mac with an Intel processor there are many options, DOS Box, Crossover, VM Ware. For a PowerPC processor like G4 and G5 machines, as far as I'm aware, there is no good option. There is Virtual PC, if you can find a copy, but it's an emulator. Because it is an emulator it runs very slowly and can't run new games. Virtual PC is only good for running simple PC applications.

There might be a way, if there is I am not aware of it. Hope this helps.

Not with your current hardware. My advice is to buy an Intel-based Mac with a discrete graphics card -- an iMac, MacBook Pro or Mac Pro -- and install Windows using Boot Camp. No solution available to PowerPC-based Macs will yield acceptable results.
