1. Safari

I've had a bunch of times today when using Safari where it would suddenly leave safari and return to the home page, as if I pushed the home button. But I did not. I'd guess it was something like a half dozen times, minimum, in a couple hours.

Since I had 8 screens set up, I thought maybe that was causing a problem, so I tried it again this evening with just one screen, but it happened again.

I'm not sure if it is specific to one page, though I do know that it did happen a lot at one site which worked fine before. The site has three columns, two of which are basically links with brief descriptions to the detailed stories. If you are familiar with the Drudge report with its multiple story link columns, the concept is similar.

I would work my way down each column, going to each story that interested me (didn't seem to have any problem while at the linked story even though they were at the same host site). But, eventually, as I worked my way down, the original page, I would get this problem more and more. I'd be flicking the page up to see lower stories and suddenly it goes back to the home screen.

Any ideas?

The other problem has to do with mail and Excel files. I send a small Excel file to my phone. It contained the grade info for a small class I teach part time. I had sent a much larger version before, but it was too slow to manipulate so this time I sent a much more basic version.

Both the large one I tried first and this small one let me examine the file well enough. In the case of the large one, I went back to it for info quite a few times without issue.

But after downloading and viewing the small file successfully, when I went back to look at it later in the day, it had a little message with the mail saying it hadn't been downloaded yet! Since I had, in fact, been looking at it before, I know it had downloaded! Worse, I couldn't find any way to get it to download again.

I have had a problem similar to your first one. Safari just stops and I am back to the beginning screen on my iPhone. Three times yesterday, and the fourth time if totally locked up and I was forced to leave it until it shut down on it's own. Since I am out of town I can't even go online to look for answers!

I'll third that motion! Safari has been less stable than the US economy lately, and I can't tell if it's from the last update or if there's something else wrong. My first-gen iPhone had VERY stable browsing until probably a few weeks ago... Apple? Any word on this? I can't imagine we're the only three with this problem.
