Apple and where credit is due

I'm an audiophile of sorts and I can say that AAC is streets ahead of MP3, so I was not alarmed by your comments Chris!
The sort of people who are are the type that by expensive re-packaged Sharpie pens to write on the outside of CDs to stop the light escaping and 'ruining' the sound. Or buy 'directional' cables for their interconnects and speakers... 'directional' cable for alternating current?!?! Those people can step away from their computers for good as far as I'm concerned!

Quote: " Pure joy because, unlike the 4G iPod nano, when you play through a podcast episode it immediately plays the next episode rather than taking you back to the Podcasts screen."
Really? If this is true and can't be fixed with a Preference, I'm giving up my idea of replacing my iPod mini with a new nano.
Does it do this even in playlists? I have an iPod playlist for podcasts arranged in the order I want to hear them.

No, you're fine with a playlist. It will march through the playlist just as it will with any other playlist. This is just for podcast episodes you access from the Podcast area. And yeah, considering that the classic and touch run from one to the next (as did the 3G nano) it's odd that the 4G doesn't.

Re: Remote App.
As awesome as it was, it got critically better with 2.1. In its first incarnation, selecting AirTunes speakers was done in the settings menu, which required drilling up through the interface to get to the topmost level. If you had been looking through artists->records->tracks, this could be 3 or 4 steps.
Now the selection of AirTunes speakers is done from the now playing list. I love that attention to detail. Very nice.

I have a little thwoking to do.
iTunes should allow a network access to the iTunes Library file without error. It should load it like an HTML file and not make it "busy". Sharing does not share everything.
Songs or movies played from network Mac should load with sufficient cache to play without stopping. It doesn't.
Selecting a song from a network Mac should automatically login and not say "duh, which way did it go?".
There should be tabbed libraries for iTunes.
The new grid view should allow sorting by track number (it doesn't).
Apps for iPhone or iTouch should be drag-and-drop if you so desire. Currently the only way to install an app is to sync--and that sometimes causes unexpected problems.

I've been running live audio for almost 10 years and I can say that the AAC codec is my personal favorite for compressed audio! I agree, AAC kicks the pants off mp3 and I love being able to store thousands of tracks on a 'tiny' little iPod for whatever: running sub-tests, balancing the room, setting various eqs.... You'll hear no major arguments from this audiophile about AAC

Chris says:
If you own an Apple TV, Remote is the only way to fly. It makes locating and playing media from the Apple TV a cinch. You’ll never go back to Apple’s clunky physical remote again.
...and yet, I keep picking up that little remote. Why? I can't navigate the Apple TV interface without it. I can call upon my own library of songs, TV shows, movies, etc. -- but I can't order movie rentals, call up podcasts, or make adjustments to Apple TV settings without the little white stick-of-gum remote. I find myself hoping for Remote 2.0, which incorporates these functions as well, allowing me to retire the white stick remote for good.
