whenever i try to burn something, it gives me this message:

The attempt to burn a disk failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.

does this just mean i need to clean it?

thanks for the help ahead of time.

and if this has already been addressed, i apologize. please direct me to the thread.

-Hi,

I'd try a compact disc laser lens cleaner for starters. If you can play CDs/DVDs it might be a different issue. Our DP G4 didn't play or burn until the laser cleaning disk was used. Radio Shack has them and take about 30 minutes to run, and some play music while waiting... B-)

it plays and imports CDs and plays DVDs just fine... i have a feeling this means its gonna need more than just a cleaning, doesnt it?

-Hi,

I'm no genius w/ laser burners but you still might try the laser cleaner since they are not that expensive. Some member might dance along with more ideas since it does play CD/DVDs.

-Hi,

Found my notes when I purchased the laser cleaner and I could play CD music but NO burning. So again, the laser cleaner might just do it. It cost $14.95 at Radio Shack. Hope that helps...

Have you burned CD's/DVD's before on this machine? Is it possible that your drive is just a read dvd/cd drive and not a RW? Just a thought.
