i was just about to download the accufuel app after reading this article as .99 isn't a bad price.

but since i'm at work i don't have access to iTunes so i was going to grap is rom the app store on my iphone. he reviews on the app store has this rated at 3.5 stars, with a few complaints about lack of updates and features.

so i guess i'll hold off and do a little mroe research on my own.

Always take reviews on the app store with a grain of salt -- a large grain :). I believe I've pointed out the shortcomings (no price statistics, no import tool, limited overall statistics) fairly well. However, even if the author never updates the program, it works very well -- data input is fast, the multi-vehicle handling is great, and the summary screens are easy to read and quite well designed. For $0.99, I don't think it can be beat...

How do you decide on which apps in this category to review. I'm noticing you did not include FuelGauge. I'm not really a fan of it, but i was just wondering.
As for Appigo, i agree with your overall opinion of it. For the $1, it's a great tool. My biggest issue with it is not being able to choose Trip or Odo on a case by case basis. I'd also like it to track other car sevices. But the developer seems to do a good job with updates, so i imagine more functionality will be added along the way.

When the app store first opened, this was one of the first types of apps I was looking for. I ended up trying Car Care and Mileage Tracker (referred to as MPG on the actual screen icon). Car Care has become my tool of choice. I could use it for a myraid of other things, but I only use it to see my miles per gallon. I like to see my 60-70mpg on my Harley (highway, 45-50 city) as compared to the 19mpg I get in my Firebird.

.99$ is a pretty good entry price, i'll give it a go and just forgo buying a cherry coke today :)

How we choose programs varies based on what we're covering and how it was assigned. In this case, I was given a list of programs to compare, and FuelGage wasn't on that list. (I get a "not available in the US store" if I try to load the FuelGage app in the App Store, too.)

Yeah, i've had FuelGague installes since day one, and there seems to be an update available as of this morning, but i can't download it, so who knows what up with that. Thanks for the response, i was only wondering. I don't think folks are missing much without it.

Nice review. I've been using MyMileMarker dot com to track my gas milage. It does a great job, and meets most of your criteria as listed in the review. They even have an iPhone optimized page which is very easy to use.
An added plus of using an online service is that nothing is stored on your phone. That saves memory on the phone, but also saves your data if something were to happen to the phone.

I read the review, downloaded Car Care and am thrilled with it. As for the input screen - I actually prefer the scroll wheels to typing, so it is much better for me.

Do any of these apps allow for (and deal properly with, in terms of the statistics/graphs) the possibility that you may have gaps in your administration, as occasionally could happen?

Well, if you use AccuFuel's trip odometer feature, then yes, you can just enter mileage when you have it -- any time you remember to set the trip odometer. If you're using full odometer readings, you'll have to wait one more tank, basically, to get back on track (if that makes sense).

I really need an iPhone app that tracks business mileage use of multiple cars. Bummer this wasn't mentioned in this review. Logging fuel efficiency is fun and all, but I need to report my business use to the IRS and it'd be great to do it from my iPhone!
