I may be posting in wrong forum, if so please let me know a more appropriate forum to post in.

When I originally made the heavenly switch to Apple, I purchased the student version of Microsoft Word X Service Release 1. It still works fine, except that I cannot open the latest version of PC-produced .docx files, and sometimes I lose things when opening a later version of excel docs.

My question(s), assuming I need those two versions (access to .docx etc), will upgrading to the latest version of Word for Mac correct it. Can I just upgrade or do I have to buy the whole office package again? Has anyone else upgraded successfully? Any comments/advice welcome. Thanks!

Docx files are the new Office Word file format. Updating to Office 2008 will fix the problem.
