I have an iPhone and an iMac G5 (OSX 10.4.11). I 'Turn Airport On' and 'Create Network...', and the iPhone momentarily connects. But as soon as I use the iPhone to go on the Internet or check e-mail, the Airport icon disappears and the Edge 'E' takes its place, and the connection slows down, of course. Why won't the connection stay intact? Thanks in advance for a solution.

Because creating a network in that way only allows the iPhone to talk to the computer, not access to the net.

As soon as you launch Safari on the phone it switches to a mode it can use to access the Internet.

I'm guessing you have the iMac plugged directly into your Internet connection. To get the iPhone to share that connection you need a wireless router for it to connect to rather than the computer.

Oh! Interesting. Yes, the iMac is connected to our cable service. We got a MacBook on the Internet through a wireless connection with my iMac, so why would the iPhone be different?
Thanks for the response.

try this:

on your iMac,

Go to System Preferences: Sharing

Select the Internet tab

Share your connection from [ethernet] if that's what your imac is using

to computers using Airport

Good Luck!
