A couple of days ago I discovered that I am no longer able to either use the "attach" button or drag a file into a new message using Apple's Mail.
If I try to drag a file from the desktop into the body of the email, it just zips right back to where it was before. If I use Attach and select the file there, nothing happens.
Do I have a preference incorrectly set? I have looked all over for an answer.

Why can't I attach files to emails?

Just curious, but is the body of your email blank when you're trying to attach a file? There is a bug in Leopard Mail (all versions, as far as I know) that prevents you from attaching files to an email with no contents. Just put a period or anything else in the email, then try attaching.

Thanks for your reply. I have it working now but it wasn't an easy fix.
I trashed the mail.plist and removed the Mail folder from the Library.
I just finished re-creating all my email accounts and I can now attach.
I'll keep in mind your suggestion about putting something in the body before attaching
