If Apple did create a PPC compatible version for 10.6, I think that would really dilute the focus of what this release is for. And honestly, would folks still using PPC's have much of a reason to howl about it? Almost all features are still available in 10.5. Come to think of it... I think that's how Apple will sell it: "PPC owners, we're cutting you off from future developments, but we'll still sell and support 10.5." :)

Which is why it would be nice to think that they will fix most if not all of the annoying bugs and UI discrepancies that the OS (Edit: i.e. 10.5) still suffers from. However, I doubt it will happen.

Yep, that is a big ol' glaring caveat: 10.6 is intended to fix architecture issues with OS X, so if you bought a Mac more than a few years ago you're probably going to be left out. But I'm confident we'll see continued bug fixes with the current version, which will continue well after 10.6 hits the market.

Perhaps all the features will still be there, but it's the speed at which it runs that's really getting to me. Perhaps I should find ways to "streamline" 10.5. There might even be some hints on this site, come to think of it.

For light work as you describe on my PowerBook G4 (12", 1.25GHz), I've had no complaints with Leopard. Now, I don't use Spaces, so perhaps that's part of it, but I surf the web, listen to music, watch movies, write documents, and handle email with it just fine...

I would just shut off Spaces, but I can't live without my Spaces anymore (unless I had 6 monitors, I suppose). And yes, I can be productive with my PowerBook just fine, but it just doesn't run at the speed I hoped it would, is all.

I can't agree with you more. The inability to close the sidebar is a real irritant, especially for small screens that do use the Tool Bar. Time Machine is another irritant as it seems like it is going all the time! I don't need that. The Help floater is irritating at best too. However, I don't agree that the Notes and ToDos addition to Mail was bad. As a home user that volunteer teaches Mac to those who are retired, the Notes and ToDos in Mail are a help as we Seasoned Citizens don't use iCal nearly as much as we would if we were still working.

I'd like to add one more item to the wish list. In every version of OS X so far, Finder windows in list view fail to update their relative dates appropriately. Here's an example. Imagine that I have a Finder window listing a single newly created file in list view. Since the file is new, the file's modification date will read "Today" (followed by the hour and minute). Now, imagine that I leave my computer, in sleep mode, overnight. The next day the Finder window will still say "Today". Since in this case we're imagining only one file, chances are I will remember that I created the file yesterday, and I won't be confused. But now imagine that I create and/or modify tens or hundreds of files on a daily basis (as in fact I do). Confusion inevitably ensues! It seems to me that this should be a very easy problem to fix, but so far Apple hasn't fixed it, even though I've sent them a bug request regarding this problem for every one of the OS X major releases, starting with 10.1. I hope that others will join me in "bugging" Apple to get this "bug" fixed!

Are you aware that you cannot use the keyboard numeric and arrow keys to move the cursor when in Time Machine? Why not? There is no acceptable reason that I should have to operate a stone age tool such as a mouse to use Time Machine.

No kidding!! I don't know about the mouse being "stone aged", but that brings up a gripe: why on earth can't you use the scroll wheel to breeze through backup windows? Seems like that would have been a no-brainer for the UI, to me.

Arrow keys work for me to navigate through the listing in the columns of the Finder. What you can't do is use tab to move between buttons in the toolbar etc.

How would you distinguish between scrolling the window and scrolling through the back-ups?

It would depend on where the cursor is. Inside the window=scrolling the window. Outside the window=scrolling through backups.

By the area of focus where your cursor lays.

MY 5 ANNOYANCES:

1. The close, minimize and maximize buttons are too small, should be just a bit larger.
2. The maximize button sometimes doesn't actually maximize some windows, particularly Preview app windows.
3. There is no proper folder up button, like in windows, in the finder toolbar, there is a back button but it is quite often faded for some reason and doesn't work!
4. My MBP doesn't go to sleep, even when the setting is activated! (maybe just my computer problem)
5. When clicking from one window to another it should automatically minimize in the dock for people to easily know where the window has gone, smart!

Any other people agree with me?????????
