I have an iDVD project ready for burning. I hit the button to burn a DVD after inserting a blank disc, and the info box "creating your DVD" pops up saying "rendering menu video asset". It then goes through this process for some time before saying "There was an error during rendering/encoding of the menus/slideshows. The burning process has been canceled."

Can anyone tell me how to burn my project?

Ha! I just signed up for this site to solve the very problem. What I have found is that iDVD just gets a bug up it's butt and decides it doesn't want to play. I've burned many, many videos during my first year of ownership, Sometimes I got the same notice you did, but a little housekeeping or a reboot and it would work. Then, for no reason a couple of months ago it just stopped burning. It got through all the steps and then repeatedly failed at the end of the actual burning.

Many people smarter and more experienced than I say do NOT export your iMovie the "share-export to iDVD" route (which worked for me probably twenty-five times before it didn't). The preferred way, according to some, is to open iDVD and 'create' your movie by importing it from iMovie. Fine difference that, don't export from iMovie, import from iDVD.

Also, clean your desktop. Apparently one needs a lot of RAM to burn. Extra RAM is tops on my Christmas list.

And, try updating your software, and excuse me for being cynical, I don't think that will work because Mac just doesn't seem to be too concerned about this iDVD glitch. But updating your software will make you feel like you are actually doing something shiny to solve your problem.

Last resort? Tear it down and reload it all. I squeezed out two more movies by doing this. And now, now the &*^! won't burn the audio portions of my movies. It says it's encoding audio, but it's really mocking me.

If it's helpful, the first time I used stuff I'd bought on iTunes in my home movies, the movies wouldn't burn because iTunes had some secret encoding because, gosh kids, being mildly digitally inclined, we just might use our purchases. I don't recall how I successfully resolved that except it involved me calling some Techie at iTunes and very clearly expressing my point of view as a sentient paying customer.

Sorry to rant. I want to reconfigure my laptop like I want slapped. I mean, don't we buy Macs so we don't have to coddle and change it's diapers on an hourly basis? Hope it helps.

Try using a better quality DVD. I've had similar problems, but when I used a good quality blank DVD it worked fine.

The only problem with your idea is that the same message occurs when you "Save as Disc Image..."
