I am ready to get a new Mac laptop. Currently I have a Black MacBook 2.2 Core2 Duo.

My budget is no more than $1,350. What would be the best for me. I do all my personal email and finances on the machine plus rip movies and do a little bit of move editing (iMovie, Final Cut Express). I also need to run virtualization to do work at home.

At MacMall I can either buy:

- a new current generation aluminum MacBook (2.0, 2GB/160GB/SuperDrive) - $1,240

or

- previous generation 15" MacBook Pro (2.2/2GB/120GB/8600MGT/SD) - $1,299

or

- previous generation 15" MacBook Pro (2.4/2GB/200GB/8600MGT/SD) - $1,349

I do take my laptop back and forth from work so I do cart it around a lot.

The 2.4 MacBook Pro seems like the way to go.

Unless you really want a larger screen (15" MacBook Pro) I don't see why you would even consider the new Aluminum MacBook. I don't think the speed difference would be much different than your current macbook and you will loose the firewire port (you said you use iMovie, so most likely you will need a firewire port).

Just my 2 cents.

The plastic is starting to get to me and feel real cheap.

I am considering stay put with my current MacBook and getting an inexpensive net book on black friday.

Anybody have any other thoughts or opinions on this?
