Hey Mac people.
I need a new printer. I know there are a zillion of them out there and the models change constantly, so this may
be a difficult question to answer. I want a printer that does a good job on both photos and text and at the same time has the least amount of ink consumption. Does anyone out there have one that fits my criteria? I don't want to spend a whole lot either and I know there is an enormous price range on printers. One more thing, I prefer to have
an inkjet. I run Tiger one a G5 2.0 desktop.

The Inkjet printers have come a long way. They all use ink and thats where the mfg's make their bucks. Since some inkjet printers are even given to ya FREE if you purchase a 'puter. Macworld has done some reviews on a few models. We've switched from Epson to HP and have been happy. And we are very hard on printers. Many folks here use Canon. So yeah, you'll be getting a lot of different flavors. Check out the HP 2545 inkjet. If you have an Office Depot near by....test drive a few. Heck, we took an Epson home and it scratched the glossy paper. Took it back and snagged an HP Deskjet 6940 which works great. Along w/ an HP Deskjet 5740.

I'll be on the side of Canon. I also switched from Epson. I have a Canon and what most impresses me, besides the great print quality, was how fast and quite it is even now after a couple of years. The ink cartridges are fairly cheap (about $12 each) and, I am a moderate user, buying about 6-8 per year. Remember that the paper you use is a very important contributor to the quality of the print.

Problem is there are so many opinions, so many brand names with so many models, that it is very difficult to come to a decision. One would have to try every printer made to really know. That would be a impossible task. Even if it were possible it still wouldn't be a benefit because new models come out continuously. I guess I will have to do a little more reading and then decide for myself. I thank you for your input, it all helps.
