That's not entirely accurate. If you're talking about a flip-phone, that's one thing, but a smartphone? By definition, smart phones sync with their portable/desktop counterparts. That's why their called smart. Because of that, BB's having no Mac sync software out of the box, forcing you to buy an app from a 3rd party manufacturer is a deal breaker. And it should've been for this review as well.

First off, it would be retarded for a Windows user to come here for a BB review when Macworld does not review the PC sync software that comes with the BB.
Secondly, a Windows user can go to PC World and get a review on the Bold and how it works with their PC. Mac users would come here for their review. And when you give a product a 4 star rating and it doesn't work with a Mac out of the box without the additional purchase of a $40 app, that should cut the review down significantly.

Yeah, I think that's the main thing. If a PC user reads the review online or in a store it means that they're considering the Mac. If you're the type to use a smartphone, then syncing is a huge issue! From Cnet, I expect no mac compatibility to be mentioned, but I think it should have been more prevalent in Macworld's review. Engadget noted that even as small a percentage as macs are, it's growing. I heard RIM might be working on their own mac app thought, which could be good news, but who knows how far off it could be.

Does anyone know whether the voice command dialing (with Bluetooth headset) is all-new for this model, or is it identical to the BlackBerry 8830 et al.? If is the same software/interface, fuggedabouditt! The hands-free voice dial interface for the 8830 is horrible, in a word. And, if it's the same, I'll continue to wait for Apple to come out with its own for the iPhone ... then I'll switch.

Well, let's say the iPhons IS a "Mac". Why, here in Macworld, are we trying to sell the "PC" (BB Storm)? This is one of the very few positive reviews I have read about the BB Storm. Even PC blog sites seem to be saying the BB Storm is a piece of dog-poo compared to the iPhone. Three out of five for this product might be acceptable if it came with Mac syncing software, which might make up for it having slow hardware, a smaller display and over 100,000 less colors on-screen. I know that this is supposed to be a "fair comparison", and that is what Macworld is about; however, you are comparing a "PC" to a "Mac" here, which I (and obviously others) deem unacceptable.

Apple don't need to execute copy and paste this poorly. There's quite a few other ways it could be done.
I've made a demo video here to show one method that would allow some really cool things, like word-constrained and line-constrained selections: iPhone copy and paste demo.
I'm sure Apple will add copy and paste at some point, they'll just do it properly.

There's only one word that can describe the unimaginative combination of finger acrobatics required for the cut & paste implementation on the Storm: Bollocks. In order to lament for the lack of an infrequently required, but much needed feature in iPhone you praised the epitome of a poor implementation.

Macworld said:
This means that the Storm has two levels of input (a touch and a click) which has been used to advanced the interface.
Doesn't Macworld have editors? Isn't it their job to catch this kind of thing? It's not like it's a subtle error of grammar - it's a glaring one.

For a less flattering review of the Blackberry Storm, check out David Pogue's review in the NY Times:

Actually, RIM does provide the PocketMac conduit software free to Storm (& other BlackBerry) users.
Here is the link:

Or, you can go directly to PocketMac and get the free download:

I purchased my Storm 8 days ago when it came out, and I must admit it is no iPhone :-(
(Unfortunately, we have poor reception coverage from AT&T, so that was a deal breaker for me)
I used PocketMac first to sync my contacts, but unfortunately, a lot of the contact were duplicated. Then I used Mark/Space's Missing Sync conduit but was also having problems, and I ultimately uninstalled Missing Sync & went back to PocketMac & did a clean reinstall (after doing a hard reset & wiping my Storm back to factory-fresh settings).
Right now, I got my contacts, appointments, tasks, as well as music & some videos on, but couldn't get my contacts to re-sync. Hopefully, both Mark/Space & PocketMac will have a fix soon before my 30 day trial is up. If I can't get it to work properly, I might very well have to go back to my Treo, or carry a simple phone & use the iPod Touch as a PDA!
