Nice try, but this solution doesn't work. It just changes the colors of all birthdays!

Well, it works here, and for a couple of others I know. As for changing the colors of the birthdays, I'm guessing that happened because it somehow changed the order of the birthday's calendar in your hierarchy...
Sorry it didn't work for you.

Didn't work for me, either, then I checked and found that person appeared twice in Address Book.
Sync is a mixed blessing...

My mistake. It does work! I had duplicate entries in Address Book. The color change is easy to correct.

I wrote an application to avoid the limits of the Address Book/iCal birthday integration. It can sync custom dates and anniversaries as well as birthdays from Address Book to iCal. It adds up to five reminders automatically to the transferred dates. As a bonus it doesn't duplicate the iCal entries. ;-)
To try Dates to iCal 2 download it from my website: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/datestoical/

I tried this, and the calendar is totally messed up. I have not backed up my calendar for a month, but do have a current pre-messed up version on my iPhone. How do I import that calendar and overwrite what is on my iMac?
