I'm looking around for alternatives to AppleWorks, which I'm fed up with, and Apple will no longer be supporting. I use most of the functionality- WP, spreadsheet, database, and picture (not really their "painter module" which is a bare bones Illustrator I guess.

I'm going to research iLife, but am wondering what people's feelings are about other options, chiefly MS Office or some lesser known app that's available. Currently I'm constrained by OS X 10.4.11 / PPC 1.33 GHz / 512 MB memory. Will upgrade memory or machine if absolutely necessary.

Thanks in advance,,

Dale

iLife/iWork isn't a bad choice at all, but it's not the number cruncher that Office can do for you.

MS Office, for all it's good/bad points really is the gold standard.

OpenOffice is getting better with each release.

Wordperfect is still around, but no office or iWork competitor imo.

If you exchange/edit/modify documents with others especially Excel and Word with extensive formatting, MSOffice. If you are making your own documents just for yourself say in a school, OpenOffice. No need to spend more on hardware unless you open several things at once.
