I have a newer model iMac which should be able to connect to the AirPort Express Base Station (AEBS) 802.11n network. However, we also have a laptop running Windows XP.

Can XP connect to 802.11n? Or do I need to set up A or G? If I need to set the AEBS to 802.11n (B/G compatible), am I still able to get the higher speeds (802.11n) on my iMac?

I also have an older model AirPort Express (not n). Could I connect the Express to the Extreme and run a 802.11n network off the Extreme and a second B/G network of the Express (which I then could use for the windows laptop)?

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks!

the XP Machine can connect to the N network if it has a wireless card that is capable of 802.11n.

If you connect the machines to the B/G compatible mode then you will still get the N speeds on the iMac when communicating with machines on the Ethernet network but it will fall to B/G speeds when communicating to the XP machine (assuming the XP machine doesnt have a N wireless card)

If you Do setup 2 different networks make sure to set each base station to a different channel to minimize interference.
