[MacPCmb]

Ever since a security update (Security Update 2008-006) about a month ago, my G5 tower running OSX 10.4.11 has not been able to run software update -- doing so always ends up with the error message "The application Software Update quit unexpectedly." Trying the "Reopen" or the "Try Again" options yields the same result.
I've repaired permissions, restarted the computer, and have tried installing standalone updates downloaded from the Apple downloads web site without success. Finder and other applications work OK, but I cannot install any updates to Apple software. I've attached the contents of the Software Update.crash.log below in hopes that some of you may provide some helpful hints for troubleshooting this problem -- thanks, in advance, for any advice you can offer.

Did you get this problem resolved? I have the same problem when start the "Software update". Here is the message I get

I resolved this problem by doing a clean install of Mac OSX 10.5 on a separate partition on my G5, doing all the software updates with a "generic" admin account, then when it was all up-to-date, using the migration assistant to import my user files and preferences from my original startup volume. System has been running fine since then. I could not find a better, more time-effective solution. I was feeling a bit behind the times with my desktop stuck at OSX 10.4.11 and my MacBook Pro on 10.5.x.
