Sorry, I don't get it:

>Yep, you can now use Boxee to browse, queue, and play streaming Netflix video.<

>No support for Netflix on the Apple TV. Yet.<

Can you or can't you get Netflix on Apple TV via Boxee?

You can't. Boxee is more than just an application that you can run on your Apple TV. It's also a media browser you run on your computer. So, Netflix support comes with the computer-based Boxee but not yet on the Apple TV version.

Thanks for the clarification, Chris.

So is the implementation of Netflix in the hands of Apple or the Boxee developers? If it's in Apple's hands, I doubt it'll ever see the light of day as it'd be in direct competition with the iStore video rentals.

If anyone wants an invite to Boxee give me an email at this address and I'll see what I can do: jbohn AT me DOT com
The only reason why I bought an AppleTV was because I found out about Boxee. The online shows don't work for me (probably because I'm in Canada) but the main use was it can play AVI files of shows I download from my computer over my network.
The 2.3 AppleTV update ads AirTunes but what it can't do is use AirTunes if you are connected to the internet via ethernet. Once you plug in ethernet you can only use ethernet, not both as you can on a mac.

None of this is directly in Apple's hands. Boxee is available to the Apple TV only through the ATV USB Creator hack -- a hack that allows other applications to be placed on the Apple TV. One of those applications is Boxee.

Where Apple is indirectly involved is in the Apple TV's processor, which may not provide enough poop (a technical term for "power") to run Silverlight, the Miicrosoft technology necessary to stream Netflix content.

if you guys need boxee invites, their blog might be a good place to ask for one... i'm just saying... i may or may not know from experience... ;)
about Netflix on the Apple TV though... i hope at least it will demonstrate Apple TV user's desperation for more content to be consumed via the Apple TV. It would be nice if the day would come when I could search for a movie and not run into one of the following:
1. they don't have it
2. they have it but its not for rent
3. its not available for rent until...
I am also waiting to buy my first movie via the Apple TV / iTunes store for when they have HD movies available for purchase.
seeing Apple TV users going to great lengths to get another provider's content on the Apple TV because of title availability even if it means taking a hit on overall quality perhaps ought to bring about some kind of a reaction from Apple, Inc. and my hopes are that reaction will be more content to keep us loyal customers loyal...
