I have been asked to document on video life biographies of some of my elderly family members so they will have their stories on DVD to pass on to future generations. I have an imac and last week bought a Sony HD camcorder but after a week on the phone with Apple was finally told it was not compatible with imovie, which I am told is the application needed to import and edit videos. I have not been able to find out much from Sony or Canon about compatibility with Mac. My project is a simple one; I go into someone's home, interview and video them and come back, import into my computer, edit if necessary and burn a DVD. So, I have returned the Sony and need to buy another camcorder. Can anyone suggest a good camcorder (not a professional one) that will work for me. I would like to import directly from the camcorder into my mac and I must be able to edit before burning. I would prefer a camcorder that is HD and standard if there is such thing. I read somewhere that the minidvd camcorders are better if you want to do editing. Before I buy another camcorder I would like to know it is a good one and will do the job. Does anyone have experience with this?
